were given by one of the workers. In one home where the pictures were shown there were seven adult Jews and four children, all of them quietly listening for over an hour and a half. These were real orthodox, unbelieving Jews. Pray for rich fruitage in the Jewish department! Fa ithfu l W itnessing Rewarded M R. H. C. HUNT of the Business Department says: “God has various ways of calling His people into service. Mine was into the Financial Department of Biola. Most of you have little sympathy with that depart ment I fear, but we covet your prayerful interest. The tendency, of course, with the pressure for money, is that our minds are apt to settle on the financial side of things. I particularly want to tell of an instance to show that our minds are able to turn to the more spiritual things. I’m concerned in getting Christians to put their money where it will count most for God and His cause,—so they will make the very best investment while on earth. There is one bank that never breaks unless it breaks with blessing on the heads of the depositors! “I went to a nearby town to see a man who wished to invest his money in the Lord’s work. When I arrived it seemed to me some things about the place suggested, not spirituality, but spiritism, so I said to him, ‘By the way, are you a Christian man?’ ‘Well, yes, in a way,’ he replied. ‘Have you accepted Jesus Christ? Are you born again, and do you know it? Can you prove it?’ ‘No, I can’t say that.’ I had only a certain length of time between stages, and for that reason opportunity was limited. “To make a long story short,—he listened to what I had to say about the plan of salvation. “About two weeks later I got a clipping out of a news paper from a hospital nurse telling of his death, together with a leaflet called ‘The Message from the King,’ which I had given him on my visit. Down at the bottom he had signed, ‘I hereby accept Jesus Christ as my Personal Sav iour.’ He had gone to Glory!” been a banner year as far as enrollments are concerned, and we trust also in spiritual blessings. We have enrolled some 2,000 students scattered throughout 25 foreign coun tries and all the states with the exception of two. 257 cer tificates were issued during the year. We have ten sys tematic courses, and two other courses in preparation.” Many Correspondence School students testify to bless ing received through the courses. Here is an extract from a letter sent by a railroad engineer, who writes: “I cannot tell you how much I value this course and how it has opened up the truth to me. I shall continue with some other course, but am not sure which one. I am a railroad engineer and away from home long hours, so that the most of my study has been at my layover at the other terminal of my run.” Another writes: “I received my certificate and am very proud of it, but greatest of all, I thank God for the deeper truth I have learned through the study of God’s Word as outlined in the Course ‘Fundamental Doctrines of Chris tianity.’ I cannot tell you how much I value this study. It opens up the truth which is so much needed in this Study by Correspondence M R. ALAN S. PEARCE of the Correspondence Department in a recent report said : “ 1928 has

day and age. I have been greatly helped and blessed by this course of study, and I heartily recommend it to all Christians who desire to know more of the fundamental truths of God’s Word, and especially to young Christians, that they might grasp these truths early in their Christian life.” It is impossible to give personal work assignments to Correspondence students, but the “League of the Golden Pen” has been organized to meet this need. Every en rolled student promises to write at least one letter a month to some friend about spiritual things, or to those in need of Christ. Even if only 1,000 students write a letter a month, in a year’s time 12,000 letters will have gone out. What possibilities for soul saving lie in this practical effort. — o — Soul Winning Efforts of Students S OME of the most enthusiastic evangelistic work in the whole Bible Institute is carried on by the students. They are having daily classes in personal work, evangel ism, and ways and means of bringing men and women and boys and girls to the Lord. The whole course of study is built around this one thing. At a recent fellowship luncheon held at the Bible Institute, one of the young women students spoke on Personal Evangelism, from the student standpoint. She said, in p a rt: “When I came to the Bible Institute I came with one idea. I knew that I would study many things, but I realized that they would all tend toward one thing and that would be to make me a real soul-winner. Above everything else I wanted to know how to win souls, and I felt that if I didn’t accomplish that through prayer and study while there my whole time there would be wasted. I loved the Lord Jesus with all my heart and soul and I wanted to be able to bring others to Him. Somebody called my attention to what the Lord accomplished in the life of Peter, changing him from one who was undepend able and vacillating to a ROCK—exactly what he was not until Jesus made him that. I took courage and knew that the same mighty power that transformed and stabil ized Peter could make me what I longed to be and was not. “Dr. Hurlburt spoke one morning in devotions on the verse, ‘Hither to me and I will make you to become fishers of men.’ I realized that I, too, would have to heed that command and go to Him that He might make ME to become a real soul winner. “A few weeks ago several of the women students banded together for more prayer in regard to this very thing—soul winning. We met each night for prayer and prayed earnestly that the Lord would lead us to those to whom He would have us minister. We realized that each person would have to be dealt with differently, that each was a precious soul needing Jesus, and that no mechanical set of rules would work. It would be only His Holy Spirit who would accomplish the work, using us as instru ments only. I ’m sure I don’t need to assure you that many souis have been won for our Lord through these prayer meetings and that we are singing on our way, rejoicing in the One who said, ‘Hither to me and I will make you to become fishers of men.’ ”
