BAŠTA FEST Film party and nature break

The ninth international festival of short fiction film in Bajina Bašta will take place from 30 th June to 3 rd July, enabling visitors to enjoy a fusion

of film, music and wonderful nature

The ninth consecutive Bašta Fest will see the audi- ence spend their evenings watching short films of young authors from around the world and enjoying the hits of the popular local DJ scene, while spending their days enjoying the Tara National Park, along the shores of lakes Perućac and Zaovi- na, as well as the banks of the Riv- er Drina. The competitive film pro- gramme culminates on the final evening with a ceremony to pres- ent awards for the best film overall (Golden Imagination) and the best male and female roles (Golden In- terpretation). A jury of youngsters, comprising high school pupils from Bajina Bašta, also awards its own prize for the best film, while their participation in the programme en- courages the critical stance of these young people, who accept their po- sition with great responsibility. This year also marks the Bašta Fest team’s establishing of the Balkan Short Film Network, together with festivals from Montenegro (Ulcinj’s Seane- ma Film Festival) and North Mac- edonia (Drim Short Film Festival), which deals with the educating of young filmmakers and promotions of short films. Bašta Fest is crucial to the de- centralisation of culture, given that it has directed a diverse film, music and educational programme, as well as an accompanying programme, to this beautiful region. The initial idea of its inception was to entice as many

visitors as possible to experience the incredible nature of Bajina Bašta and the surrounding area, while the or- ganisers are striving to make Bašta Fest an oasis of culture that primari- ly promotes young local and interna- tional authors, placing an emphasis on short films with authentic act- ing achievements. The depths of Lake Perućac While the audience recovers from the previous evening and charges its batteries for the next, with the heat of summer swelter- ing to the max, Bašta Fest provides excellent opportunities for relaxa- tion and refreshment, whether day- trips at high altitude or splashing in waters surrounded by stunning na- ture. Festival guests have the oppor- tunity to start their day with a boat ride through the Lake Perućac can- yon, where you can take in the natu- ral beauty and the plant and animal habitats of the Tara National Park, the confluence of the rivers Žepa and Drina, and the narrow part of the canyon near the Stari Brod camp- site, with its smaller streams and brooks, and medieval fortifications. And if you’d “only” like to bathe a little, there’s an arranged beach that has pontoons with swimming pools for children and a fenced off bath- ing area. The River Drina The River Drina forms a natu- ral border between Serbia and Bos- nia-Herzegovina, and perhaps its most beautiful stretch is located in the vicinity of Bajina Bašta, below Tara mountain. Apart from enjoying the views offered from the canyons, a riverside picnic is always an option. The famous Drina river house, a cab- in on a rock in the middle of the riv- er, is also near Bajina Bašta and repre- sents one of the symbols of the town. tain at an elevation of 892 metres above sea level. Formed on the river Rzav and adorned with numerous coves, it has turquoise waters and dense pine forests along its shores. This lake is also suitable for swim- ming, while there’s nothing but na- ture along its shores. In the vicinity of the embankment dam is also the spot where Josif Pančić discovered the Serbian spruce, but also the site of the Grad medieval fortress. If you don’t fancy taking a dip here, you’ll find ample enjoyment in the beauti- ful views, in surroundings that are home to numerous protected ani- mal and plant species.
