starts here, while the promenade leads you on to the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, near Ne- bojša Tower, in front of the Belgrade Fortress, where you can find respite in the shade of trees. If your heart and feet won’t let you rest, the next scene worthy of a mention is Beton Hala [Concrete Hall], which is also known as a cen- tre of fun for the city’s elite. Here you can grab a bite to eat from the international menus of the many restaurants while enjoying views of the Sava dock international passen- ger terminal. Alternatively, continue onwards to Branko’s Bridge, where you’ll be awaited by a new dilemma: to head towards Zemun or take the road to Ada Ciganlija. Instead of tak- ing the route along Dorćol’s Danube quayside, you can also reach this spot via Kalemegdan, which is rich with greenery in June, or by skirt- ing the periphery of this park and then traversing the neighbourhood of Kosančić Wreath, with its har- monious ambience. This small ur- ban quarter, characterised by thick rows of trees among cobblestoned streets that preserve the spirit of the old city hub, emerged in the
maximum, with long vermilion skies in the mornings and evenings, mak- ing this city on two rivers romantic and irresistibly alluring. If your starting point to tour the city is Knez Mihailova Street, which is both a pedestrian walkway and a guardian of tradition, head in the direction of the Danube. De- scending the slope will lead you to Dorćol, the city’s oldest urban hub, a hugely important monument to history and culture and a witness to the city’s turbulent history. It is embraced on all sides by the great river, and June is the right time to experience that river in all its beau- ty. As soon as you reach the riv- erbank, you’ll be approached by a flock of swans that have grown ac- customed to eating out of the hands of kindly passers-by. The promenade passes tennis courts, but also the swimming pool of the Milan Gale Muškatirović Sports Centre, where you can find relief from the heat. This stunning complex was designed by academic Ivan Antić, who took care not to disturb the surround- ing natural environment. The on- ly problem with this route will be choosing the right café to sit and enjoy the multitude of delightful worlds. Bursting with positive im- pressions, you can cool off and con- clude your tour at Ada Ciganlija’s Sa- va Lake, because this urban resort’s bathing season starts in mid-June. On the side of Ada Ciganlija island facing the Sava, the route stretches across the water to New Belgrade, with taxi boats departing from the Staro kupalište [Old bathing area]. If Branko’s Bridge marked the junction to turn towards Zemun, it also provides the same opportu-
already mentioned. This part of the city is at its most beautiful at dusk or after nightfall, when the area and the river is illuminated by the lights of the bridges: Branko’s Bridge, the Old Sava Bridge, Gazela Bridge and Ada Bridge. If you’ve had your fill of dilem- mas related to the numerous possi- bilities for a good time in Belgrade during June, feel free to head to Košutnjak. In this forest park and popular daytrip area, coving 330 hectares and at an elevation of 250 metres above sea level, none of your thoughts will disturb you. They will all be absorbed by the lush green- ery. And afterwards, rested and ful- ly invigorated, you will be prepared for the inevitable new adventures brought by the always lively and warm Serbian capital.

It’s still too early for swimming at Lido, the landscaped beach area of this river island, because the Dan- ube remains fast-flowing and bloat- ed, and still cold, but sunbathing is highly recommended, as is a walk along the dirt lanes that traverse this area of the densest biodiver- sity in the capital. It is also possi- ble to tour this entire route using a rented bicycle, in which case you can take a break on the part of the riverbank in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art, a masterpiece of Ivanka Raspopović and the afore- mentioned Ivan Antić, and take in views of the old part of the city, but also the beautiful, new Belgrade Wa- terfront neighbourhood that we’ve
