The Zumtobel Group’s ability to exert influ- ence lies in continually increasing the sales volume of more energy-efficient products. Decarbonisation lever 5 | Increasing the share of products with variable luminous flux: Components that technically support variable control of luminous flux are essential for managing energy consumption in line with demand. Luminaires fitted with correspon- ding components for controlling luminous flux enable end customers to tailor their energy use to their actual needs, thereby reducing energy consumption and the resulting emissions. One of the Zumtobel Group’s goals is to continually increase the share of these products sold. Decarbonisation lever 6 | Decarbonisation of the energy mix (passive action): Greening the grid is an external yet significant factor. The Zumtobel Group benefits from the increasing availability of renewable energy in the grid, which further reduces indirect emis- sions generated from the use of products by end customers. This action lies outside the sphere of influence of the Zumtobel Group but is nevertheless a decisive factor when it comes to target attainment. Based on the latest forecasts from the European Environ- ment Agency (EEA), the Zumtobel Group is expected to achieve its set climate targets – provided that the EU implements the plan- ned decarbonisation of the power grid to the extent envisaged.
Scope 1 and 2: Direct and indirect emissions from own operations
Decarbonisation lever 1 | Gradual transition of the company fleet to electric vehicles: Replacing conventional vehicles with electric or other low-emission pro- pulsion systems will reduce direct (Scope 1) emissions generated by the vehicle fleet. The Zumtobel Group aims to double its number of electric vehicles compared with the 2024/25 financial year. Decarbonisation lever 2 | Further expan- sion of renewable energy at non-European plants: Transition to electrical energy from renewable sources at international produc- tion sites is a key lever for reducing Scope 2 emissions. Fossil fuels will be replaced by wind, solar, or hydropower.
Scope 3: Indirect emissions from the value chain
Decarbonisation lever 3 | Sustainable procurement strategy: The Zumtobel Group is increasingly focusing on the procurement of sustainable raw materials and recycled secondary materials. The selection of sustai- nable suppliers reduces upstream emis- sions. However, the effectiveness of this action depends on technological advances and their commercial availability. Decarbonisation lever 4 | Increasing the energy efficiency of the product portfolio: More energy-efficient products reduce emissions during the use phase by custo- mers. This is a key lever as the vast majority of emissions is generated by the use of sold products. In light of this, the Zumtobel Group is focusing on further increasing energy effi- ciency. However, the potential of this lever is subject to physical limitations.
