and evaluated during the product develop- ment phase. The design and engineering ensure that the components or products can be remanufactured at the end of their initial life cycle. The focus here is on preventing and reducing waste along the entire value chain used to create products and services as well as in relation to the entire product life cycle.
In the context of Circular Services under the CDRs, the circular economy scenarios follow a cascading use principle that preserves as much value as possible and include options for: Maintenance, upgrade, repair and refur- bishment, Reuse and remanufacturing, and Recycling. The reusability of both the com- ponents and the product is already calculated
Various solutions within the circular economy cascades are prioritised for the products and their application:
• Maintenance, Upgrade, Repair & Refurbishment:
Lighting brands Zumtobel and Thorn offer various spare parts to extend the life of the lu- minaires at customer sites. The design of the luminaires is geared towards ease of repair: this includes both simple disassembly and the use of spare parts. Examples of products include TECTON, PANOS III, VIVO II and CRAFT II from Zumtobel Lighting and Avenue, COLLEGE II by Thorn Lighting. In the Components segment, Tridonic offers the Lifetime Indicator, a tool that enables customers to obtain reliable information on the expected re- maining service life of the products in use. This facilitates a more transparent assessment and enables customers to evaluate whether and when a luminaire needs to be replaced or repaired. Reuse & Remanufacturing: In order to keep as many raw materials as possible in the cycle and to offer customers a long-term service solution that conserves resources and reduces CO₂ emissions, the Zum- tobel Group has become the first company in the industry to launch a remanufacturing service through its lighting brand Zumtobel. Remanufacturing is available for the TECTON II, PANOS III, CRAFT II and VIVO II product ranges: at the end of their agreed service life, the luminaires can be remanufactured in accordance with the remanufacturing standard and put back into service. The Lifetime Indicator forms the basis for the potential reuse of components, as it provides information on their remaining service life. Recycling: The Zumtobel Group is subject to the EU WEEE Directive and is therefore financially responsible for the disposal of its electrical equipment. Its contribution helps support the infrastructure for collecting and recycling electronic equipment. Waste is registered and reported in accordance with national regulations in order to promote environmental pro- tection and the recovery of valuable resources.
