RESOURCE USE AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Actions and resources related to resour- ce inflows and outflows [E5-2]
The third pillar, Circular Services, focuses on the implementation of the circular econo- my scenarios for the lighting brands. The Zumtobel Group aims to offer high value creation and attractive services with the lo- west possible use of materials sourced from primary resources. This makes it possible to counteract the identified material sustai- nability matter related to resource inflows. New opportunities and partner networks are continually developed in order to extend the product lifespan and adopt a circular approach for products and materials. Priority is consistently given to the following cycles: Maintenance, upgrade, repair and refurbish- ment as well as Reuse & remanufacturing. In addition to implementing the CDRs, the Zumtobel Group is working on various projects that promote the incorporation and implementation of a circular economy into the Group. These projects are aligned with the structure of the CDRs, were launched in the 2025/26 financial year and are ongoing at the time of reporting.
All actions are monitored and assessed in line with the defined target settings. Both human and financial resources are available for implementing actions. The human re- sources associated with resource use at the Zumtobel Group are provided by the Global Purchasing department. Employees from Group Sustainability, Global Quality and Product Management cover the person- nel requirements associated with circular economy. As one of the CDRs, Circular Sourcing is one of three pillars helping to ensure that pro- ducts manufactured by the lighting brands are circular in nature in the product design and material selection phases. It places particular emphasis on the upstream value chain. A potential analysis was carried out to identify the material groups in which there are short- and medium-term opportunities to increase the proportion of recycled material. Following extensive market research, an initiative was launched this year to increa- se the proportion of recycled material in plastics. Plastics with a higher proportion of recycled material are currently being tested. The aim is to gradually introduce plastics with higher recycling content into the light- ing brands’ product range. Circular Design is another one of the three CDRs and refers to the continuous align- ment of the design and engineering of a product to improve separation, reparability and reusability. The foundations for enabling Circular Services at the end of the product’s initial use phase are already laid during the design stage.
