Rockland Plaza is one of the brightest jewels in Brent Harden’s development treasure trove. And he continues to polish its facets so that it gleams even brighter. “It’s very positive,” Harden said during a May 4 phone interview. “We’ve had tremendous growth.” Since construction of the TFC Country Store as its commercial anchor point, Rockland Plaza has grown up and out to feature almost a dozen stores from large national franchises like Staples Business Supplies and big-name Québec chains like Pop Chaussures to smaller tenants like a Benjamin Moore Paints outlet. It has since become a popular dining centre along County Road 17 with four possible choices including St-Hubert, Subway, Buster’s, and the Canadian icon, A & W. The plaza’s development is not finished. “You’ll see four more new stores within the next four months,” promised Harden, adding that the next phase of expansion will encompass 4400 square feet on-site. Harden cited the development of the YMCA and recreation complex, the inter- national hockey academy with the two large NHL-sized rinks, and also the SmartCentre shoppingmall down the road from his own plaza, as all bonus attrac- tions for families looking for a nice place to settle down. Albert Street rebuild PlansforrebuildingAlbertStreetwere in the works last year but never got finished. So it continues over to this year. Councial approved a transfer of $37,349 to themunicipal reserve fund. The transfer represents the unspent portion of $49,000 in the 2011 budget for preparation of ten- derdocumentsforreconstructionofAlbert Street. The money will go towards finishing the preparation work.
