Thanks-Giving for W.I. On July 29, 2023, the Campus hosted an online event titled Thanks-Giving for W.I. under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency, Dame Marcella Liburd, GCMG, J.P., Governor- General of St. Kitts and Nevis and His Excellency, Sir Rodney Williams, GCMG, KGN, KSt.J, MBBS, PhD (h.c.), Governor- General of Antigua and Barbuda. This event was held in support of the Campus’ Endowment Fund, which was established in 2021 to provide the region’s talented yet disadvantaged students with a “fighting” chance at success and, by extension, ensure the longevity of the West Indies. The event was organised by the Campus Alumni Office to help raise USD500,000/BDS1million in support of student scholarships and grants for developmental projects. The Global Campus UWI 75th Anniversary Celebrations As part of the Campus’ activities to mark The UWI 75th anniversary celebrations, several events were held across the 16 countries served by The UWI from January to August 2023. These events included thanksgiving services, tree- planting activities, and cooking showcases. In March 2023, the Global Conversations Lecture Series was launched to invite discussions around topical and impactful issues regionally and internationally. Topics highlighted were: The Role of Philosophy in Addressing Health and Global Environmental Concerns by Professor Balaganapathi Devarakonda, Indian Council Cultural Relations Chair of Indology & Gandhian Studies, The UWI Mona, Cultural Intelligence presented by Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Board Member & Executive Director, Financial Services, Africa Finance Corporation, and Locating Women in the Reparations Discourse: Consolidating Democracy and Equality in the Caribbean presented by Honourable Ambassador Dr. June Soomer. The activities will continue through to December 2023. The UWI Climate Justice and Education Hub The University of the West Indies, with funding from the Open Society Foundations, is developing an online Climate Justice, Education and Literacy Hub. The hub, which is being spearheaded by the Global Campus, will provide a source for information and resources on climate change, climate action, climate justice, and other areas relating to climate literacy and sustainable development. Additionally, it will serve as a space for networking and collaboration for citizens from the Caribbean and other Small Island Developing States. The hub will also present a unique opportunity for individuals to learn about climate change and to undertake actions aimed at mitigating and adapting to its impacts, as well as sharing on the network. In July 2023, two stakeholder surveys were conducted to engage the university community and obtain feedback from young people between the ages of 16-30 and educators, representatives of non-governmental organisations, community activists and policy-makers to garner support for the design of the hub. The hub will be hosted on the Global Institute for Climate Smart and Resilience Development
