2025 RETIRING PROGRAM CHAIRS AND AUTHORS

PLI thanks these retiring Program Chairs and Authors for their many years of service. Their expertise, leadership, and spirit of volunteerism have contributed to our mission and the greater legal community.

Lauren E. Aguiar served as Co-Chair of PLI’s Current Developments in Federal Civil Practice from 2013 to 2026, and as a faculty member on the Pretrial Practice program from 2021 to 2023. Lauren recently joined JAB Holding Company as Partner, Chief Legal Officer, and Global General Counsel, overseeing legal strategy, compliance, and governance across the firm’s global portfolio. Before JAB, Lauren spent nearly 30 years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as a partner, serving on the firm’s Policy Committee and as President of the Skadden Foundation.

Gary Barnett served as Co-Chair of PLI’s Fundamentals of Swaps & Other Derivatives program from 2011 to 2024. He also served as Co-Chair of New Developments in Securitization from 1995 to 2010. Gary is the founder and CEO of Digital Capital Markets, LLC, and Co-Founder of Fleming Park Global Partners, LLC. He is a former Deputy Director in the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to joining the SEC, Gary was the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Director of the Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight (now the Market Participants Division). Before joining the CFTC in 2011, he was a partner and head of the U.S. Derivatives and Structured Finance Practice Group at Linklaters LLP. Prior to Linklaters, he was a partner and co-head of the Securitization and Derivatives Practice at Shearman & Sterling LLP.

David Bender served as Co-Chair of PLI’s Intellectual Property Law Institute for more than three decades. David is Special Counsel, Data Privacy, at GTC Law Group, where he specializes in Privacy and Data Protection matters. Before joining GTC, he founded the Intellectual Property Practice, co-founded the Privacy Practice, and was head of the Privacy Practice at White & Case LLP. Prior to joining White & Case LLP, he was head of the Intellectual Property Litigation Department at AT&T, where he was responsible for all intellectual property litigation brought by or against any Bell System company.
