2025 RETIRING PROGRAM CHAIRS AND AUTHORS

Tiela Chalmers has been a frequent PLI Program Chair and faculty member of many pro bono programs, including Ethical Issues in California Pro Bono Representation, Climate Disaster and Community Resilience: The Role of Legal Professionals, and Providing Legal Assistance in the Aftermath of Disaster , among others. A leader in the field of legal services for low-income communities, Tiela served as Executive Director of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program, and was Chief Executive Officer of the Alameda County Bar Association and Legal Access Alameda until her retirement. She also co-chaired the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative, a statewide group of organizations that provide free legal assistance to disaster survivors.

Joshua D. Cohn began working with PLI as a faculty member on the ABCs of Swaps & Other Derivatives program. In 2011, he became Co-Chair of the rebranded Fundamentals of Swaps & Other Derivatives program and Co-Chair of Advanced Swaps & Other Derivatives . Josh provides derivatives dispute advisory and expert witness services, recently providing expert testimony for AG Financial Products in Lehman Brothers International (Europe) (in administration) v. AG Financial Products, Inc. In 2016 he retired as Partner and head of Mayer Brown’s US Derivatives & Structured Products practice and co-leader of the Global Derivatives & Structured Products practice. He concentrated his practice on derivatives, having extensive experience as U.S. counsel to the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), and representing dealers and end-users in a wide range of transactions. Before joining Mayer Brown in 2010, Josh was a partner at Allen & Overy LLP.

Brackett Denniston served as Co-Chair of PLI’s Hot Topics for In-House Counsel program. Brackett is Senior Counsel in Goodwin’s Litigation Department, where he advises clients on matters involving corporate governance, complex litigation, and regulatory issues. In 2016, he rejoined Goodwin from General Electric Company, where he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for more than a decade. He joined GE in 1996 as Vice President and Senior Counsel of Litigation and Legal Policy.
