Council approved a recommendation for posting nine warning signs, purchased at a cost of $100 each.– Gregg Chamberlain YOUTH ARSON CASE A 14-year-old Embrun youth faces charges of arson, resulting from police and fire department investigation of a building fire on Forget Street in Embrun, October 28. Inspection of the premises determined the fire was set on purpose in a bedroom inside the building. Damage is estimated at $300,000. The youth, whose name is withheld under the rules of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with arson without regard to human life, and also arson causing property damage. He will appear in provincial court in L’Orignal at a later date. – Gregg Chamberlain NEW ATV TRAILS The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) approved a recommen- dation from its planning and forestry department for new additions to the ATV trail network in the Larose Forest. The additions, which will be available for use in Spring 2020, will provide more variety for ATV riders in the community forest and also eliminate sections of trails, which followed along local roads. The new Gagnon Trail has a two-year probation period for its use, with regular monitoring of trail usage and condition during that time.– Gregg Chamberlain RED PINE PLANTATIONS The red pine is the trademark tree of the Larose Forest. The tree has an average lifespan of between 100 and 150 years, and many of the red pine plantations in the Larose Forest are near the 90-year mark and becoming more susceptible to disease as they age. The United Counties of Prescott- Russell will focus now on steps to support the growth of younger genera- tions of red pine.– Gregg Chamberlain
La Municipalité de Casselman espère augmenter les arrêts à sa gare du train de passagers VIA Rail. « C’est important d’offrir de bons services à nos citoyens, surtout que Casselman croît rapidement. On a les services d’autobus pour les gens qui travaillent à Ottawa. Main- tenant, le train est un transport en commun. Il serait important de leur offrir davantage de services », a dit le maire Daniel Lafleur. Selon VIA Rail, l’horaire et la fréquence des trains qui s’arrêtent à Casselman seront discutés dans le cadre de la proposition du train à grande fréquence (TGF) dans le corridor Québec-Toronto.

Eden Nymaway Francoeur Nimmo, 18 ans, d’Embrun, est accusé de conduite imprudente à la suite d’une enquête policière sur un accident survenu sur la rue Maheu à Embrun, vers 6 h, le 3 novembre. Le dossier d’incident de la police indique qu’une voiture se dirigeait vers l’ouest sur la rue Castlebeau lorsqu’elle a perdu le contrôle et a heurté une maison sur la rue Maheu. La police, les ambulanciers paramédicaux et les pompiers ont répondu à un appel au sujet de l’accident. Mme Nimmo a été transportée à l’hôpital pour le traitement de blessures mineures. —photos fournies par la PPO
