Police put Jeep racer on the sidelines
the posted speed limit while on the road. OPP Const. Jonathan Bouchard was man- ning a morning speed checkstop on County Road 9 in The Nation municipality Nov. 3 when he clocked a black 2009 Jeep Com- pass rushing along the road at 131 kilome- tres an hour in a posted 80-kph section. Const. Bouchard intercepted the Jeep
and charged the 33-year-old Plantagenet driver under the Highway Traffic Act with speed racing. The officer impounded the Jeep for a seven-day period and also issued an auto- matic seven-day suspension of the driver’s licence. The driver still has a Dec. 6 court date in
L’Orignal on the original charge. Police remind motorists that the posted speed limit is the maximum allowed for vehicle traffic. As winter approaches, driv- ers should make a habit of reducing their speed to below the posted limit to allow for longer braking time due to icy road condi- tions.

The Recreation Department is offering to local clubs and associations the opportunity to advertise their activities and events (cultural, social, community work or sports activities) in the next publication of the 2013 Spring / Summer Community Activity and Citizen’s Guide. The bilingual publication will be distributed to every household of the City at the beginning of the month of April. Please only submit your activities being held from April to August 2013. Winter overnight parking regulations are in effect throughout the city from November 15 to April 1 . The objective is to permit the snow removal from our streets and roads so you may travel safely. This means that you cannot park on City streets between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Vehicles that remain parked on the street during an overnight parking restriction will be ticketed $55. As residents and motorists please be aware of your local weather. Enforcement of winter overnight parking restrictions will continue each evening until snow clearing operations are completed.
