S P O R T S COUGARS AND ROYALS BATTLE FOR CHANCE AT NCJHL FINALS

Clarence Creek The Clarence Creek Castors are three games up against the Gatineau-Hull Volant and looking for a fourth and final win in their quarter-finals series in the National Capital Junior Hockey League. The Castors beat the Volant 4-1, 3-1, and 2-1 in the first three games of their quarter- finals series. If the February 26 game in Gatineau finishes in Clarence Creek’s favour, the Castors will move on to the semi-finals schedule and wait to see who they play against then. Scoring singles for Clarence Creek in the February 22 opener were Kyle Green, Patrick Lemay, Nathan Melée, and Sam Paquette. Assists came from Lemay, Etienne Agius- Pease, Tyler Baker, Aiden Cannell, Matthew Clifford, and Vincent Martel, with Corey Camirand guarding the net. Brad Faubert scored the lone Gatineau goal with assists from Mathieu Des Ruis- seaux and Genis Gratton. Marc-Olivier Bastien was in the net. Saturday night at the Rockland arena, Agius-Pease, Baker, and Lemay scored for Clarence Creek, with assists coming from Martel, Paquette, and Samuel Gaudet, while Camirand guarded the net. Des Ruisseaux scored for Gatineau with help from Gratton and Jeremy Trudeau, while Bastien was in the net. Sunday afternoon in Clarence Creek, Martel and Raphaël Payant scored for the Castors, with assists from Clifford and Lemay, while Camirand blocked the net. Jérémie Cardinal scored for Gatineau with assists from Simon Hupé and Marquis Roy.

The battle has begun for a place in the championship finals of the National Capital Junior Hockey League and the Vankleek Hill Cougars and the Bytown Royals are split at two games to one in the quarter-finals series so far. The Royals got a 5-2 win against the Cougars last Friday night on their home ice. Scoring two goals each for Bytown were Jonathan Cauchon and Gregory Knighton with Justin Proulx tallying a single. Goal assists came from Proulx, Dylan Lajeunesse, Eric L’Heureux, Nicolas Loyer, Samuel Paquette, and Joshua Renaud, with Danik Gervais guarding the net. Goals for the Cougars came from Tyler Dopelhamer and Jonathan Lacroix. Assisting were Lacroix, Keean McEachern, and Jacob Trempe, with Alexander Labrèche in the net. Saturday night at the Vankleek Hill Arena the Cougars crowned the Royals 9-5 with McEachern and Trempe both punching in a pair of goals for Vankleek Hill. Tallying single points were Dopelhamer, Justin Labrosse, Trystan Lavoie, Danny Plourde-Grenon, and Nikolas Ayotte. Assists came from Ayotte, Dopelhamer, Labrosse, McEachern, Plourde- Grenon, Trempe, Zacharias Leblanc, Hugo Blanchard, Ryan Allen, and Joey Simoneau, with Labrèche guarding the net. For the Royals Cauchon scored twice with single points going in from Samuel Constan- tineau, Francis Proulx, and Justin Proulx. Assisting were Constantineau, Lajeunesse, Knighton, Loyer, and Renaud, with Gervais in the net. Sunday afternoon in Vankleek Hill the Cougars clawed the Royals 6-1 with single goals from Allen, Ayotte, Castoguay, Dopeha- mer, Lavoie, and Jonathan Leblanc. Assisting were Allen, Ayotte, Castonguay, Dopelhamer, Labrosse, Plourde-Grenon, Trempe, and Zacharie Leblanc, with Frederick Durocher blocking the net. Francis Dall scored the lone Bytown goal with help from Samuel Paquette. Gervais was in the net. The Cougars and Royals are in Ottawa Fri- day night with a fifth, and maybe final, game between them Saturday night in Vankleek Hill. Remaining games, if necessary, will be Sunday in Ottawa and then next Wednesday in Vankleek Hill. St-Isidore St-Isidore is scrambling to get ahead of North Dundas in the NCJHL quarter-final series between the two clubs. North Dundas has two wins to St-Isidore’s one after the first three games. North Dundas won the first two games against St-Isidore 4-3 each time. Jarrett Williams punched in two goals for North Dundas with Bradley Stitt Tom Fingler tallying singles in the February 22 opener in St-Isidore. Assisting on goals were Jarrett, Fingler, Cameron Brown, Matthew Cowley, Justin Lefebvre, and Hugo Lusignan, with Reilly Tondreau guarding the net. Ryan Wells scored twice for St-Isidore with Kevin Howson popping in a single. Goal assists came from Jakob Brunette, Frédérik Laflèche, Francis Laviolette, and Sebastien Roy, with Dawson Irving in the net. Saturday in Chesterville saw singles for North Dundas from Lefebvre, Lusignan, Kyle

LES HAWKS DE HAWKESBURY BATTENT LES 73’S DE KEMPTVILLE 5-3

Les Hawks de Hawkesbury ont battu les 73s de Kemtpville 5-3 le weekend dernier. Madoka Suzuki a marqué le premier but du match pour l’équipe de Kemptville dans la première période du match, le dimanche 24 février. Les Hawks ont profité d’un avantage numérique au début de la deuxième période pour égaliser le match 1-1. Luke Grainger a marqué avec l’aide de ses coéquipiers Michael Marleau et Zachary Fournier. Kemptville a ensuite profité d’un avan- tage numérique et Jared Patterson a repris l’avance pour son équipe avec son but à 3 :55 de la deuxième. Moins de deux minutes plus tard, Grainger marque son deuxième but de la soirée pour les Hawks et égalise le match encore une fois. Les Hawks prennent l’avance pour la première fois dans le match avec un but de Samuel Hatto à 7 :16 de la deuxième période. Bradley Shaw des Hawks a marqué le but final de la deuxième période, qui a été palpitante de la part des deux équipes. Les Hawks sont entrés en troisième période avec une avance de 4-2 sur Kemptville. The Hawks play next on Thursday, February 28, against the Kanata Lasers, on Friday, March 1, against the Rockland Nats and again on Sunday, March 3, against the Nepean Raiders. —archives
