ROCKLAND | It was double the numbers and double the fun as people double- timed around and around the mezzanine walkway above the main ice rink at the Clarence-Rockland Arena in a Walk for Memories. The local incarnation of the Alzheimer’s Society’s annual fundraiser and awareness event proved even more successful this past Jan. 25 weekend than it was last year. “It was a great walk,” said Sherry Davis, campaign and volunteer coordinator for the society’s Cornwall & District branch.“We doubled the number of people participat- ing.” This year more than 40 people, either alone or as part of a team, took part in the Walk at the arena. Clarence-Rockland pledges for the event this year also came close to triple the previous event with $8137 raised over the weekend. Last year’s Walk for Memories in Clarence-Rockland re- sulted in about $3000 for the society’s pro- grams. The Team Nonni group profiled in a re- cent Vision article on theWalk for Memories brought into close to half of all the pledges gathered from Clarence-Rockland. Team Nonni members collected $3950 in honour of their grandparents, both of whom are dealing with Alzheimer’s Syndrome.
