make it a vital part of our lives. The more Scripture becomes a part of us, the less we will be to sin (Psa. 119:11). We must never decide what to do on the basis of our own selfishness and personal desires. Hiding Cod's Word in the heart will build up resistance to the dev il's unceasing desire for influence. This is the manner by which our Saviour turned back the devil in the wilderness. A person can know all of the theories of how to have excellent physical health and still become anemic if he fails to put theory into practice. Even so a Christian can fail in daily living if he does not put the Word of God to practical use. Will this be your personal goal and desire? SENSITIVITY TO SCRIPTURE Assimilating the Bible into our lives should be the primary objec tive of the child of God. Only then will we be able to discern ade quately the Lord's will for our lives day by day. Nothing is more im portant for us as we face the prob lems of existence in this complex society. The promise of Scripture is, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee" (Isa. 26:3). A Christian can fail in daily living if he does not put the Word he knows into a practical daily use. Psalm 119:105 describes Scripture as both a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Pro gression is definitely in view. Ap plying these truths to our present daily circumstances it becomes a lamp to our feet. As it sheds light for every one of our steps it will have the effect of leading us into
the right decisions. You will find men like Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, Daniel, the Apostle Paul, and many others. In each case there was a yieldedness to Cod's will and a reception thereby of His wisdom. Trace the lives of anyone, or all of them, and you cannot help but be faced with this truth. No dedica tion is true surrender to the Lord without departure from evil and trusting the Lord. The negative as well as the positive are necessary. Many people are confused about God's will because they have al lowed the presence of unconfessed sin. The Psalmist said, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me" (Psa. 66:18). Then, we should have a ready spirit whereby Cod is able to teach us. We dare not "lean to our own understanding." We must "ac knowledge Him" and not be wise in our own eyes (vrs. 7). Anything and everything, from rearing the children to buying the car, must be weighed carefully by born-again believers before the Lord. Our con suming purpose should be to do only those things that are in His will. The Holy Spirit has been sent to lead and guide us into all truth (John 16:13). We are to walk in the Spirit (Cal. 5:16). He must di rect our steps. Like the Psalmist of old we need to pray, "Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my Cod, thy spirit is good, lead me" (Psa. 143:10). The Holy Spirit has been sent in to the world to bring us all truth. John 17:17 reveals that God's Word is truth. For this reason the will of Cod must always be in perfect agreement with the Bible. This is the instrument of our unerring di rection. How important that we Page 42
