Larose Forest theft
Police have a weekend smash-and-grab theft case from the Larose Forest. Const. James Tremblay answered a call Feb. 9 about a vehicle theft report from the Larose Forest parking site on Champlain Street in Bourget. That Sunday afternoon someone went around the parking area breaking into the vehicles sitting there while their owners were off on the ski trails or doing other ac- tivities. The owner of one vehicle returned to find a window smashed open and the purse that was left inside missing along with some other items. Anyone with information about this ve- hicle break-in or any suspicious-acting per- sons seen at the parking site can call Const. Tremblay at the Rockland OPP station at 446-5124 or toll-free to 1-888-310-1122. Calls to the CrimeStoppers toll-free confi- dential tips line at 1-800-222-8477 are also acceptable. Drunk in public The first weekend of Carnival in Clarence Creek saw police show up at the Clarence Creek Arena to deal with a public distur- bance complaint. Carnival organizers reported a man who seemed to drunk and was proving trouble- some. Police took the man in charge and brought him to the OPP station in Rockland. Martin Rochon, 30, of Clarence Creek is charged under the Liquor Licence Act with public drunkenness. Trailer thief Someone is driving around with a stolen utility trailer. Const. Attilio Vortasio from the Hawkes- bury OPP station is investigating a trailer theft report from The Nation Municipality. Sometime between Feb. 4 and 5 a person went into the back yard of a residence on County Road 3 and left with a utility trailer. The stolen trailer, measures 12 feet by seven feet, is black in colour and described as “ex- tremely dirty” at the time it was taken. Anyone with information about the theft can phone the CrimeStoppers confidential tips line toll-free at 1-800-222-8477. Snow bank peril Building snow forts is a common winter amusement for children. But parents need to be aware that under certain conditions it can turn dangerous without warning. One Canadian child has died this winter and another is in critical condition in hospi- tal after being buried in snow by accident. The first incident happened in a Winnipeg suburb on Feb. 5, the second case, which proved fatal, happened the same day in Amaranth Township in Dufferin County in southern Ontario. Police investigation has determined that the children in each case were tunnelling into a snowbank which then collapsed, burying them for an unknown amount of time. Parents and all caregivers are urged to check up on children’s activities when they are playing outside during winter.
