VOLUNTEERING

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Wen Wen Li, P.Eng. Senior Engineer

Alberta Electric System Operator Calgary

A GOOD FIT Wen Wen Li, P.Eng., shown in downtown Banff, likes to keep fit, read—and volunteer for APEGA.

Q : What do you enjoy about volunteering? A: I can contribute to the success of APEGA and improve myself at the same time. Volunteer positions can provide diversified opportunities for me to learn different things that I may not get through work. I like to work with other members in different areas of the APEGA family and learn from them, too. Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering? A: I like to read books—and try to be fit so I feel good and can still wear my jeans bought more than 10 years ago! Wen Wen and other APEGA volunteers inspire members to give back to their professions and the greater community. Each year, more than 1,500 volunteers contribute their time, talent, and energy to making the self-regulation of engineering and geoscience in Alberta a success story.

Q: What led you to the career you’re in today? A: I enjoy solving engineering issues. There are so many dynamic things to learn in engineering and what I have learned can help the public. I truly believe knowledge is treasure in my life. Q: Looking back at your journey so far, what advice would you give to your younger self? A: It would be very beneficial if you took some university courses in finance and economics. It may not seem obvious to you now, but later on you’ll find out how tied to engineering they are!

Whether you’re interested in shaping the future of the professions by serving on a board or committee, or inspiring the next generation of passionate engineers, there’s a place in APEGA’s volunteer program for you.
