Discover some of the finest scenery on o4er in England with excursions through the stunning Cumbrian and Northumberland countryside. Included is a ride on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway with towering viaducts, long tunnels and staggering views. Cumbrian Cavalcade Day 1 Following your included home pick up we travel towards Carlisle, to our hotel, the Crown & Mitre, arriving late afternoon for our 4 nights stay which includes dinner, bed & breakfast. Tea/co4ee and biscuits are served on arrival. Day 2 Today we head for Longtown and drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park. We take a break at the visitor centre before continuing to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square. This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian’s Wall, which stretched some 76 miles from the Tyne to the Solway. Day 3 This morning we start our first train journey of the day in Carlisle. The line follows the Cumbrian coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven, the stunning sea views stay with us to Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway – L’al Ratty steam train from the coast to the foothills of England’s highest mountains. Seven miles of steam in the Lake District National Park. Day 4 We travel into the Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, where we find the weekly market in full swing*. Then we travel on past the immense Ribblehead Viaduct, through charming Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Settle. In the afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England – the famous Settle to Carlisle line. Towering viaducts, bridges, long deep tunnels, lovingly kept station gardens all help to make this one of the best loved lines in the country. We travel along the whole line through majestic scenery to Carlisle. Day 5 After breakfast we depart and make our way home. *Market day correct at time itinerary was produced.
