Workplace safety report for school district Upper Canada District School Board trustees (UCDSB) received a reminder that the district must keep working on its own workplace safety record. Dennis Koluk, UCDSB health and safety specialist, reported the number of accident claims filed last year with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board totalled 118 compared to 90 in the previous year. Koluk noted the district still has a lower-than-average overall accident rate compared to other school districts its size in Ontario. He recommended continued emphasis on workplace safety inspections, with a focus on reducing potential incidents involving slips, falls, and tripping, along with continued training for on-site safety inspections of schools and other district facilities. He also recommended updat- ing health and safety programs to meet current provincial guidelines for chemical management and workplace violence prevention. – Gregg Chamberlain Jusqu’à présent, la soirée Paint Nite du dimanche 7 février a permis d’amasser une somme de 637,50 $. Une autre soirée sera organisée le samedi 7 mai prochain pour tenter d’amasser encore plus de fonds et d’envoyer davantage de jeunes au camp cet été. Tous sont invités à venir peinturer, danser et s’amuser pour une bonne cause. Un goûter ainsi qu’un encan silencieux sont aussi au nombre des activités prévues. différents sports, de créer des œuvres d’art ou même d’apprendre en faisant des expé- riences scientifiques.
Lemontant amassé par la soirée Paint Nite du Carnaval de Crysler 2016 a été dévoilé lors du souper communautaire du village, le vendredi 18 mars dernier. Cette soirée Paint Nite avait comme ob- jectif d’amasser des fonds pour aider des enfants de famille à faible revenu à partici- per au Camp d’été Optimiste de Crysler. Le camp d’été accueille les jeunes de 5 à 13 ans et, à chaque semaine pendant 10 semaines, un thème différent est présenté. The public library branch now has an on-site defibrillator station courtesy of a donation from the Cardiac Science Corpora- tion (CSC) and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The CSC provided the library with a Powerheart G5 automated external defibrillator (AED). The user-safe device can help resuscitate a person suffering a heart attack. The Heart and Stroke Foundation has an ongoing campaign to ensure there are defibrillator stations at local com- munity centres, arenas, and other public buildings. The first 15 minutes are critical for the survival of a heart attack victim and immediate use of an AED or application of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) increases the chance of survival from a heart attack by 75 per cent. – Gregg Chamberlain Library ready to help heart patients
