What I did: As a tax and audit intern, I started out by helping issue 1099s for our clients. I then moved on to preparing 1120S and 1065 tax returns since they are due by March 15, but also completed some 1040 returns in between. After March 15, I prepared a lot of 1040 tax returns and 1120 business tax returns. In addition to preparing tax returns, I helped complete both audits and reviews. What I liked: I enjoyed the fast-paced environment, learning more about tax/ audit, and being able to take the accounting knowledge from the classroom and put it into practice in an accounting firm setting. I also enjoyed being encouraged to try new and harder projects every day so that I could get the full experience of what a full-time public accountant does on a daily basis.
