gŏđŏ À l’attaque du Mont Méru Une trentaine d’élèves du collège Bourget se sont récemment rendus en Tanzanie, sur le continent africain, afin d’escalader le Mont Méru. L’ascension du 5e mont en importance de l’Afrique s’est faite en plusieurs étapes. La première journée, les étudiants sont montés à 2500 mètres d’altitude. La journée suivante, ils ont parcouru un millier de mètres supplémentaires pour se rendre au sommet du Petit Méru. L’ascension finale s’est faite de nuit pour arriver au sommet du Mont Méru, à 4566 mètres d’altitude, au levé du soleil. «Un grand sentiment d'accomplissement a accompagné chaque élève rendu au sommet. Il faut dire qu'ils ont dû travailler fort pour y arriver, certains souffrant du mal de l'altitude», expli- que Mme Collette. Durant leur visite en Tanzanie, les élèves ont aussi rencontré les étudiants d’une école secondaire avec qui ils ont pu échanger. «Les élèves du Collège ont démontré une belle ouverture aux autres et n'ont pas eu peur de se salir», raconte une accompagnatrice, Marilou Collette. Ils ont aussi rénové une classe, planté des arbres et disputé une partie de soccer avec les Tanzani- ens. Par la suite, les élèves ont passé trois jours en safari dans des parcs nationaux afin d’observer les animaux de la savane dans leur environnement naturel. Après l’escalade, les élèves ont pu profiter du temps clément pour se reposer sur la plage, nager dans l'océan Indien, faire de la plongée en apnée et visiter la ville historique de Stone Town.
