person do you think the Lord Jesus was trying to tell His followers to be? Object Lesson E a r s T h a t H e a r OBJECTS: An ear of com, and the outline of a human ear, cut from paper. (If an ear of corn is not available, a yellow piece of paper may be used with kernels outlined on it.) LESSON: How are people like corn stalks ? “They both have ears.” That , is a very good answer. 1 brought an ear of com with me, as well as a picture representing the human ear. The ear of com cannot hear. The hu man ear is supposed to hear, but often does not, even when Uie person is not deaf. Christ in giving His parables spoke ot this kind of person when He said, “Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” He knew that there were some who would hear arid understand, and that there were others who would not want to hear and understand. Isaiah dealt with the same kind of people, for he said, “In cline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live” (Isa. 55:3). Today, as well as in the days of Isaiah and Christ, there are those who 'fail to hear God’s voice speaking to them. It is well for us to ask ourselves, “Are we using our ears as God would have us use them ? We should keep our ears alert, listening for the voice of God, and not be like the stalk of com which has many ears but never hears.

Peter’s Boat M a t t h e w 13:1-53 MEMORY VERSE: "By love serve one another’’ (Gal. 5:13). APPROACH: The Lord Jesus had sent out His twelve disciples to tell the Jews that their King had come, but the Jews, most of them, would not be lieve the Good News. So now the King

is getting ready to go back to heaven, and He is telling His followers some important t h i n g s b e f o r e He leaves them. LESSON STORY: O ne d a y as the multitudes gathered about Him, He got into a b o a t a n d

pushed it out from the shore, far enough so that all of the people could see and hear Him, and there He began to tell them things they needed to know. He told these things to them as stories. One thing that He wanted to tell them was how important it is to' study God’s Word. Jesus knew that after He went back to heaven, the only way that peo ple should know God’s plan would be by studying about it in the Bible and by talking to God, by praying to Him. So Jesus told them this story (read Matt. 13:3-9). Jesus’ disciples asked Him to explain this story, which He did. The “seed” is the Word of God, and the “soil” is the kind of hearts of the people that listen. The hearts of some people are hard; these people won’t listen at all. Then there are other people who listen and think about what the Bible says, but they soon forget it. And there are other people who listen and believe, but they get so busy doing other things that they don’t take time to think about the things of God. And then there are people who study and believe and do the things which the Word of God tells them to do. Which kind of
