SJDANCECO SPRING DANCE FESTIVAL Sunday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastridge Center, San Jose
April 19–28 is National Dance Week, so if you didn’t already have a reason to attend this epic dance performance, you do now. Enjoy a variety of dance forms at this free event, which features over 60 Bay Area dance organizations, from budding ballerinas to seasoned stars. From 12–1 p.m., professional dancers will take the stage and demonstrate their skills for younger students to aspire to. Admission to the festival is free.

CUPERTINO CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL April 27–28 Memorial Park, Cupertino
Are you familiar with James Lick? This wealthy businessman and real estate mogul wanted to leave behind a legacy. After realizing a massive pyramid in downtown San Francisco probably wouldn’t fly, Lick sought the advice of his friends in the science community, who encouraged him to think beyond earthly constraints. Thus, Lick Observatory was born. The observatory and its massive telescope stand today as a testament to James Lick atop Mt. Hamilton. On May 2, the observatory offers a special public evening tour. You can learn more about the history of the observatory and the importance of the telescope during this event. As the sun sets and the night sky becomes visible, you’ll get to view the stars and planets through the legendary 36-inch great refractor telescope. Tickets are available at ucsctickets.com.
The Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival pays tribute to Cupertino’s sister city, Toyokawa, Japan, with a weekend of Japanese art and culture celebrations. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, visitors can enjoy cultural exhibits, workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on activities in the Quinlan Community Center. Head outside to enjoy Taiko drumming, dancing, martial arts, and musical performances. Food and drinks will be available in the food court. The event is free, as is parking in the A and B lots of De Anza College.
