Objects: A large nail and several toothpicks. (Drill a hole through the head of the nail,. down the stem, wide and deep enough to conceal a toothpick.) Lesson: It would be difficult to bend this nail. Because we cannot bend it, we will let it remind us of the Lord Jesus Christ. You will remember that people were always trying to change Him. On one occasion He was eating with the publicans and sinners, and the Pharisees said, “ How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Mark 2:16,17). He had a great deal of opposition, but He refused to be influenced by it. I have in my hand several toothpicks. You will notice that it is easy to break them. They remind me of those people who are easily influenced by the enemies of the Lord. When tested and tried, they do not show any strength. Do you think it possible to so strengthen one of these toothpicks that it would stand the test and not be broken?

Objects: A correspondence envelope and a red cardboard cross. (Cut a slot in front of the envelope 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. In this slot, on the un cut side of the envelope print the word “ PREACH.” The base of the cross should be the same width as the envel ope and about lVz inches in depth. The crossarm and upright of the cross should be 1 inch wide. Cut the upper end of the envelope off, in order that the cross may be inserted.)

Lesson: How many words do you see on this envelope? I hear some one say “ One.” Apparently you are right, but I am speaking to you about “Hidden Words,” aim 1 want you to be careful, lest you miss seeing some words, which at first do not appear. in Luke 4:18 we read, “ The Spirit of me Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the cap tives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” The world “ PREACH” means to her ald or proclaim. We will now start hunting for hidden words. I will move the red cross down a little, covering the letter “ P” and we now see the word “ REACH.” Christ wanted to preach in order that He might reach those who were in need. Next, we move the cross down until the “ R” is covered, and we discover the word, “ EACH.” Christ preached in or der that He might reach each individual. Since Jesus has gone back to heaven, He needs those who will carry on His work here on the earth. In Mark 16:15 we read, “ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” This verse is known as the Great Commission, and it shows us that He wants us to preach and reach each one in need of salvation.

If it were possible to get this tooth pick inside the strong nail, then it could not be broken. It is possible to do this, for there is a small hole through the head of the nail, which runs down in side the nail. See, the toothpick is now inside the nail, and cannot be broken. The toothpick inside the nail reminds me of a verse of Scripture, “ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Eph. 6:10). As a Christian is “ in the Lord” he can be strong and resist the testings and temptations which come to him. In First Corinthians 10:13 we read, “ There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
