KacieWhite - “Purewicks: The New Female External Catheter” (session 16) The Purewick is a new tool that helps female patients with urinary incontinence issues. Purewicks use a flexible wick that allows the collection of urine through a suctioning system. Urinary incontinence in women can lead to long-term catheter use, but the Purewick can change that. Long-term catheter use can ultimately lead to catheter- associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs). Three different studies have shown that Purewicks can decrease female patients’ chances of CAUTIs. Two other research studies show the potential complications and the rate of CAUTIs with long-term catheter use. Purewicks can be the new intervention in the healthcare field. ColtonWilmes - “Management Plan for theWood Duck” (session 1) By the late 1800’s the wood duck population was on a severe decline due to hunting for the plumage and meat. Federal and state laws were soon put into place to help the wood duck make a recovery. Today one of the problems for the wood duck is habitat loss. There are strategies that can be put into place to help them though. A wildlife management plan for wood ducks on my parents’ property would be small but beneficial to the species.
