Jcb is celebrating another two Queen’s awards for Enterprise in 2016, honouring a growth in exports of its diggers and engines. this latest achievement now takes the company’s tally to an incredible 30 Queen’s awards, since receiving their first back in 1969. The company - which is also marking 70 years in business – is renowned around the world for manufacturing construction and agricultural machinery. JCB Compact Products received The Queen’s Award for International Trade for increasing sales by 25% from 2013 and 2015, in the face of fierce global competition. Established in 1999, JCB Compact Products Ltd, designs and manufactures a range of compact construction equipment including micro, mini and midi excavators from 0.8 to 10 tonnes, which sell in large volumes around the world. The global mini digger market sector is worth more than £4 billion annually and JCB Compact Products competes for a slice of this business by selling its machines in more than 100 countries. JCB is also now becoming increasingly renowned for the manufacture of diesel engines. The JCB engine went into production just 12 years ago and since then more than 350,000 have been produced.
JCB originally began producing the engines to power its own machines and today more than 70% of all the company’s products are fitted with the JCB engine. Such has been the success of the JCB engine range that other companies around the world now buy them to power their own products. In fact, overseas sales grew by more than 325% between 2012 and 2014 – earning JCB Power Systems The Queen’s Award for International Trade. JCB Power Systems has in fact won two Queen’s Awards in 2016, the other for Innovation (see also, the additional profile on page 86) .
