HOSPITALITY, LEISURE, GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC SERVICES This sector includes a wide range of jobs within areas such as sports, tourism, events, museums and heritage organisations, politics and NGOs, armed forces and civil service. Many jobs will require excellent interpersonal skills, including communication, self- management, team-working and problem solving: Languages If you chose to study a language with us you also have the opportunity to learn up to three languages at undergraduate level and focus on the themes of culture, education, teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL), translation and interpreting, positioning you for a truly global career path. In addition, the Students’ Union has a range of societies dedicated to different languages and cultures, giving you plenty of opportunity to learn more in an informal setting. Amongst these student run societies is also the British Sign Language society which is a fun way to learn a valuable skill which can break down communication barriers for those who are hard of hearing. Marketing Contemporary marketing requires analytical skills, numeracy, data management and strategic management as well as creativity in relation to marketing. Our Marketing programmes are tailored to individuals wishing to develop a career in marketing that requires a sound understanding of applied processes, as well as theoretical and academic perspectives. Tourism Equip yourself for success in one of the largest industries in the world. The BSc and MSc Management programmes offer a specialism in Tourism that will prepare you for a diverse range of career opportunities in the private, public and charity sectors.

History Completing a degree in History not only gives you a thorough understanding of the subject matter you have been studying, but a host of transferable skills such as research and analytical skills and the ability to problem solve and make decisions, as well as ways to present your ideas in a range of formats. You will focus on ancient, medieval and modern history and public history and heritage. Geography When you study Geography you gain a detailed insight into a huge range of practical, social, economic and environmental issues and the ways in which they are interconnected and vary over time and space. You will be in a great position to acquire roles that tackle social, political or environmental inequalities and challenges. Many of our graduates have gone on to build exciting careers in international aid work, the charity sector and the political sector. Education Studying a degree in Education not only prepares you for a postgraduate teaching degree but also careers in education policy and politics, leadership and management, diversity and well-being in education, child development and educational neuroscience. English Literature and Creative Writing Undertaking a degree that involves Creative Writing will give you the chance to learn how to write in a range of different styles which can help you grab the interest of future customers, produce a commanding report or clearly explain complex processes and procedures – all skills that employers are looking for. Computer Science The practical nature of our programmes in the Department of Computer Science means that students are always having to think creatively to solve the problems that are given to them. This combination of creative problem solving and technical skill can make students very attractive in the job market.
