MEDICINE, HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE Both our College of Human and Health Sciences and Swansea University Medical School offer a number of programmes that are suitable for students looking to enter or progress within this sector, such as: Applied Medical Sciences Applied Medical Sciences is the science that underpins medicine. Our BSc Applied Medical Sciences provides the ideal springboard for careers in research and innovation, ideally suited for future scientists, biotechnology entrepreneurs and those who desire a more comprehensive understanding of medical science prior to graduate entry into more clinically focused studies such as Medicine. Public Health and Health Promotion With innovation in public health and health promotion practice at the heart of the programme, graduates in this field have the skills necessary to achieve change and influence health policy at all levels. Our graduates have become public health practitioners, set up their own businesses and followed research careers. Psychology Validated by the British Psychological Society (BPS) our Psychology programmes allow students to explore the relationship between the mind, brain and behaviour.

SCIENCES AND PHARMACEUTICALS This sector is broad and encompasses careers in chemicals, life and natural sciences to name but a few. A range of our departments offer programmes with pathways into this sector: Biochemistry We have a number of pathways in this area – including Medical Biochemistry, Biochemistry and Genetics, Medical Genetics, which can be studied as a four-year combined Master’s programmes (MSci). Our Biochemistry graduates find employment in international organisations including major pharmaceutical companies and the biotechnology sector. Physics Studying Physics provides core numerically literate problem solving skills which are widely applicable to science and industry. The core knowledge you will gain prepares you for a diverse range of careers, and our graduates have gone on to work in areas from theoretical and experimental physics to medical physics, bio physics, and finance.

Medical Engineering Medical Engineering at Swansea University draws on the exciting medical research taking place within the College of Engineering and the Medical School. The course equips students with engineering skills, whilst also providing the added experience and knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and the ability to communicate with clinicians. Medicine Our accelerated 4 year medical degree open to graduates of any discipline. The curriculum reflect the way in which clinicians approach patients and how patients present to doctors. From the first term you will gain clinical experience on placement and on successful completion of the course, you will graduate as a Doctor with an MBBCh Medicine from Swansea University. Population Health and Medical Sciences Population Health has been described as “the next big thing in healthcare”. The multidisciplinary approach encompasses medical and life sciences, social sciences, epidemiology, demography, public health and health informatics, ideal for a wide range of careers in Health or for further professional and vocational training, such as Graduate Entry Medicine or healthcare management, education and training, postgraduate studies or research. Biology We have a range of programmes in this area – including Marine Biology, Zoology, Biochemistry and Genetics. Students across all programmes gain valuable laboratory and field experience giving them a solid foundation from which they might go on to work in clinical or research environments. Computer Science We have programmes that are broad ranging or specialised depending on your interests and future career goals. Our degrees will train you for high-level entry into a wide range of careers including software development, internet systems and development for mobile technologies. Pharmacy The principle of our MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy Degree is to prepare you for future careers as a registered pharmacist. Our approach recognises that Pharmacists are key members of a multidisciplinary healthcare team so you will train alongside Doctors and Nurses. Together with a strong focus on clinical and communication skills and digital technology, you will develop the academic, practical, and personal qualities to practise pharmacy competently and with confidence.
