STUDYING ENGLISH LANGUAGE WITH SWANSEA UNIVERSITY Studying academic English with the English Language Training Services (ELTS) will give you the skills and confidence to help you get the most out of your university course and time in Swansea. ELTS is accredited by both the British Council and BALEAP. ELTS teaching staff are qualified professionals with many years’ experience of delivering high quality English language teaching and training to students from all over the world. As fully enrolled members of the University, all ELTS students have access to university facilities including the library, IT services, and the Sports Village.
SWELT The Swansea University English Language Test (SWELT) is the official English language test for international students wishing to study at Swansea University who are looking for an alternative to IELTS. Swansea University is a Licenced Sponsor under Tier 4 of the Points Based Immigration System and therefore accepts SWELT as an alternative to IELTS for entry to degree and postgraduate programmes. AM I SUITABLE FOR THE SWELT TEST? SWELT is ideal if you: • Already know that you want to study at Swansea University and are looking for an alternative to IELTS as fulfilment of your English language entry requirement. • Are interested in studying for a bachelor or postgraduate degree in the UK, are interested in studying at Swansea, one of the UK’s leading universities and would like an alternative to IELTS*. * Please note, SWELT can only be used for entry to Swansea University WHERE DO THE SWELT TESTS TAKE PLACE? • UK - Swansea University, Singleton Park Campus. • Overseas - We are currently arranging test dates in China and other countries. Contact us to find out if we have a test near you. • Online – visit swansea.ac.uk/english- language-training-services/swelt to register for an online test.
COURSES AT ELTS Academic English Programmes
Develop your academic skills and ability with academic English. Start dates are September and February each year.
General English Summer Programme Two, four, six and eight-week general English courses over the summer with trips to places of interest and social events. Summer Academic Pre-sessional Programmes Take an intensive English course over the summer to feel fully prepared for the start of your Swansea University degree. IELTS Preparation Programme Our IELTS Preparation Programme helps students achieve a language score of 4.5/5.0 for entry onto our Academic English Programmes. Start dates for our 10-week programme are September, January, April and July. There is also a month long intensive course in May. CELTA Teacher Training The internationally recognised Cambridge course for training English language teachers is offered as a full-time, part-time or online course.
