PIA Reimagines Workplace Recognition Program Printing Industries of America has reimagined its Best Workplace in the Americas (BWA) recognition program. In 2017, PIA has chosen to break new ground with a redevelopment of the BWA logo, appli- cation process, timeline, and award presentation. Along with the new format, an additional Safety Shield designation is also available for those compa- nies who exhibit excellence in environmental, health, and safety areas. The BWA entries will open Tuesday, September 5. The entry form will be available on August 7, for review and planning. Last day for entries will be Fr iday, November 17. An anonymous panel of human relations professionals from the industry will review applications and make their selections in early December with honorees notified in Janu- ary 2018. New this year, the Best Workplaces in the America awards will be presented during a lun- cheon at the 2018 President’s Conference, March 4-6, in San Antonio,Texas. PIA Supports Competition For Graphic Communications Printing Industries of America contributed to a na- tional graphic communications contest at the S k i l l s U S A Championships held June 20–23 in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to helping conduct the national competition, Printing Industries of Amer- ica sponsored a breakfast for competitors and took them on a tour of a local print facility. The graphic communications contest required stu- dents to evaluate and create digital files, solve pro- duction planning scenarios, print on digital presses, diecut on sheetfed offset presses, fold work to speci- fications, participate in an oral interview, and take an online test to assess their overall graphic communica- tions knowledge.
