For many years it has been the custom of the American people to set aside one day of special thanks to God for His bountiful goodness to us as a nation. True

that in many cases this is only a day of feasting and fattening without the spirit of true thanksgiving to the Lord; hut, on the part of many it is a time of genuine gratitude to God for all He has done for His people. Let us think about thanks giving in the light of the W ord of God. STUDY QUESTIONS 1. Discuss for a few minutes the de pendence of every man upon God (Acts 17:25-28). 2. H ow does God manifest His goodness to His creatures? (Matt. 5:45; Psa. 34; Psa. 103, etc.) 3. What is the nature of God’s gifts to man? (James 1:17.) 4. What is God’s best gift to man? (John 3:16; 2 Cor. 9:15.) 5. The account of the healing of the leper is one of the best commentaries on the human heart when it comes to the matter of thanksgiving unto God for His goodness. D o you think the same percentage holds true today? In other words do you not think that the majority of the people in the world are not truly grateful to the Giver of every good and perfect gift? 11. H ow do you know that the leper was truly grateful? (v. 16.) Does not true gratitude express itself in reverence and in vocal expression, too? 12. W h y does the H oly Spirit add, “ and he was a Samaritan” ? (v. 16.) 13. D o you think that the heart of Christ is wounded b y ingratitude? (v. 17.) 14. Is Jesus looking for you to be in His presence more often giving Him thanks? (v. 18.) 15. D o you think this one returning leper received salvation as well as heal ing of body? (v. 19.)

Nov. 26 — The Law of Liberality Prov. 11:24-26 Nov. 27 — Demonstrating Christian Love 1 John 3:16-18 THE HEART OF THE LESSON M oney is the test of the believer’s sin cerity. If he shares as liberally as he can with the Lord he shows his love for Christ in a tangible and definite way. If he is stingy with God he demonstrates that he has not yet entered into full co operation with God in extending the in fluence of Christ around the world. Let us see what the W ord of God has to say about giving. STUDY QUESTIONS 1. What criticism did God level at His people? (Mai. 3:7.) D o you think this condition had anything to do with the failure in their giving? 2. What gracious invitation does God give His people? (v. 7b.) 3. What further charge did God bring against His people? (v. 8.) 4. What is the consequence o f failure in supporting the work of the Lord? (v. 9. ) 5. W h y do you think God has made His work dependent upon His people? 6. What does God command as a rem edy for His people’s condition? (v. 10.) 7. In what sense does being generous with God prove H im? 8. What does God promise to do to those who are generous w ith H im ? (v. 10 . ) 9. What further benefit does the Lord mention for obedience in the matter of giving? (v. 11.) 10. What further promise does the Lord add to His generous servants? (v. 12.) 11. In the light of the New Testament on giving turn to 2 Cor. 8. In this chap ter what does Paul mean b y speaking of giving as a grace? (v. 7.) 12. H ow does giving prove “ the sin cerity of your love” ? (v. 8.) 13. What is the great example of gen erosity? (v. 9.) 14. What is the basis o f acceptable giv ing? (v. 12.) W h y should every believer be w illing to give to God’s work? 15. What is the rule with regard to giving? (2 Cor. 9:6.) 16. W ith what attitude should the be liever share with God? (v. 7.) 17. Study and discuss the follow ing Scriptures with regard to giving: Prov. 3:9, 10; 11:24-26; 13:7; Luke 6:36; 12:- 20, 21. END.
