BICSI Brief Volume 1, Issue 3

NEW BICSI CREDENTIAL HOLDERS CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR HARD WORK PAID OFF! COMMUNITY CORNER

After investigating BICSI Cares and its mission to help kids, this committee fell right in line with what I have personally dealt with. At each BICSI Conference, BICSI Cares has a presentation with the kid’s charity chosen for that specific confer- ence. At each presentation, I get emotional just knowing what our members and corporate sponsors have contributed to the charity and how those contributions will impact the charity. If you have seen our presentations, you have witnessed some of the representatives break down and start crying when they see the amount that was raised for them. This is a huge deal for them, as we choose charities with a small budget, and we want whatever we can raise to have a large impact on them and what they can provide to others. For those of you that are not familiar with BICSI Cares or how we got started, let me try to explain. BICSI Cares is a committee that was started by a joke back in the '70s. There was a meeting held in Lexington, Kentucky, and BICSI member Ray Gendron decided to pass around a hat and raise money from those attending. He probably did not anticipate the amount of money that others were willing to give for no special reason. Once he collected the money, he

then had a dilemma. What was he going to do with it? He couldn’t give it back because he did not know how much everyone gave. The answer was simple: Give the money to a charity that helps kids. From there, BICSI Cares has grown to what we have now. Many of us still to this day talk about Ray at each conference. Being part of this committee is a passion for our members. We put in a lot of hours during the conference and on Thursday, it is always worth the time we invested. If you want to get involved with BICSI and be part of a committee, we are looking for new members. You will not regret being part of such a worthwhile cause. Application online. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
