CARROLL Explore one of Central Iowa’s counties, Carroll, where small-town manufacturers are hard at work, the beautiful nature of Swan Lake State Park invites visitors, and buildings rich with history surround the city. Our first day of travel takes us west to Jefferson, where lunch and the view from the Mahanay Bell Tower await. Upon arriving in Carroll, relax at Santa Maria Winery, a Tuscan winery and event center located in the heart of Carroll on the historic Lincoln Highway. The following day takes place in Breda, where the group will explore St. Bernard Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic Church in the county. Touring continues at Toyne, Inc., a family-owned fire apparatus manufacturer, and Trophies Plus, a family-owned trophy and award-supplier. Lunch will be enjoyed as a group, and then we will continue to Swan Lake State Park for a private program about conservation efforts and wildlife. A stop at Graddy’s is next! Learn about the process of hydroponic gardening and see what it takes to grow a perfect tomato. Having worked up an appetite from a full day of touring, a special evening awaits as Star Destinations and Windstar owners, the Gretemans, host dinner at the Windstar Bus Stop! The final day of touring begins in the small town of Templeton, where a nearly century-old recipe of a smooth-finishing rye whiskey has created notoriety and intrigue since the 1920s. At Templeton Rye, see firsthand how “the good stuff” is made, led by a seasoned member of the Templeton Rye team. Following the tour will be a stop at Manning, where the 350-year-old German Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park is a step back in time to the 1600s. The group will then head home with lunch on your own.
