This fantastic two-hour class will start with a Wine 101 presentation. You will learn how to hold your glass, how to swirl and sniff, and what to look for when tasting wine while enjoying some delicious samples. Next, we will break out the canvasses and create! Painting with acrylics is made easy with instruction from art professional Lianne Westcott. As you’re swirling your glass, you’ll be whirling your paintbrush to make a new piece of art. Remembering Schooldays Hills Bank in North Liberty (590 W Forevergreen Rd) Wednesday, August 22, 10:00 a.m. Doris Montag, our local homespun historian and humorist, returns to Hills Bank with "Remembering Schooldays,” another talk in her series The History of Ordinary Things. She will share her mother's collection from the one- room schoolhouse and report on teachers’ rules of conduct. Doris will create a “pop-up” exhibit and narrate the collection of artifacts. Military and Wartime Service Associated with the University of Iowa Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Wednesday, September 5, 10:00 a.m. From the Civil War to the present, during times of war and peace, many individuals associated with the University of Iowa have served in the U.S. armed forces. University archivist David McCartney will review available archive resources with an emphasis on World War I and World War II-related records. A native of Charles City, he has master’s degrees in history and library science from the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
