The Era of Student Activism at the University of Iowa Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Wednesday, August 8, 10:00 a.m.

From the formation of the Student Association for Racial Equality in 1961 to the so-called “last anti-war protest” on the Pentacrest in 1973, the University of Iowa during the 1960s was the setting for campus activism on many fronts. University archivist David McCartney will recount several events that defined the period and identify resources—both online and at the archives in the UI Main Library— of interest. A native of Charles City, David has master’s degrees in history and library science from the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently president of the Midwest Archives Conference. Register with a Friends Club representative at 319-679-2103 or FriendsClub@HillsBank.com.
