Greige was the word as Sergio Mercado Design dreamed up an ethereal bath rich with wood and stone elements and complete with Japanese paper sculptures floating above Components faucets and an Abrazo freestanding tub, both by Kohler.
AN ICONIC SHOW HOUSE MAKES ITS RETURN
A fter a three-year hiatus, Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York made a stylish return. More than 20 partic- ipating designers and architects transformed the River Mansion, an opulent Beaux-Arts structure built in 1902. Valued at $20 million, the mansion boasts seven wood-burning fireplaces and a 2,000-foot roof deck. Actress Julia Marlowe, the Mansion’s first resident, would be surprised by the dramatic transformation and pleased to see the photographic sa- lute to her in the grand entry. Trends on display included tex- ture—the tile in Wesley Moon’s kitch- en, wallcoverings in Sergio Mercado’s bath (left). Elsewhere, designs taken from nature brought life to spac- es—birds in the laundry, foliage in a powder room. And aquatic touches bubbled up in bedrooms, including Mary McDonald’s seaside grotto and Sasha Bikoff’s iridescent bed on a half-shell. The program has raised over $28 million since 1973 for causes like the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. kipsbaydecoratorshowhouse.org ■ T E X T PAUL HAGEN PHOTOGRAPHY NICK SARGENT
