Ladies’ Night raises $26,000 for Make-a-Wish CANDICE VETTER candice.vetter@eap.on.ca Roger Sigouin hosted the red carpet and their own version of E-Talk Daily, R-Talk, complimenting the ladies and asking what designer they were wearing.
Men of the Ag Society ran the bar and the male members of the Embrun Fire Department helped with the live auction events along with auctioneers Stewart Jr. and Steven James. Tanya Desjardins from Make-a-Wish spoke, as well as Nancy Neville who had received an organ transplant, and Kim Furness who made the decision to donate her deceased husband’s organs. After the auction Ambush played without a break until midnight. Co-chairs of the committee expressed their gratitude for the donations of products and services, which included over 100 hundred silent and live auction items, and thanked their many generous sponsors and the women who attended. Said co- chair Judy McFaul, “Together, we have raised more than $250,000 for charitable organizations over the past 10 years!”
RUSSELL l The 10 th annual edition of the Russell Agricultural Society’s Ladies’ Night, held May 3, was another stunning success, raising $26,000 for Make-a-Wish Eastern Ontario and giving a boost to organ donation for BeADonor.ca at the same time. The annual event at the Russell Arena features a different theme each year and this year’s was Make a wish—give a gift. The gala night celebrated a decade of fun for ladies only. The arena was transformed into a beautiful dining and dancing hall for the soirée. Ladies were greeted upon entering by local politicians including Russell Township councillors and MPP Grant Crack. The highlight of the 10 th Annual Ladies’ Night event hosted by the Russell Agricultu- ral Society on May 3 at the Russell Arena was the cheque presentation to this year’s chosen charity, Make-a-Wish Eastern Ontario. The live and silent auctions raised $21,000 and Scotiabank added $5,000. The night’s theme of Make a wish—give a gift also highlighted the opportunity for organ donation with a registration table available there. Tanya Desjardins of Make-a-Wish accepted the cheques presented by Lynda Kemp, Judy McFaul, Linda Duhamel, Suzanne Perras-Campbell, KelseyThomp- son, Michelle St. Pierre and Lynne Rochon. Missing are committee members Lawrie Hamilton and Marie Longtin.
