iN C E m a n y Christians have made excuses for their smoking by stat ing that Charles Haddon Spurgeon smoked, it is necessary to give the following explanation: I was a member of the entertain ment committee of the World Baptist Alliance in the Baptist Temple of Philadelphia in 1911. Some months prior to these meetings, Dr. Shake speare, General Secretary of the Al liance, came to give instruction and advice in regard to the conduct at these gatherings. At that time theie came to Philadelphia a Baptist minis ter who had been the chief secretary of the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
