DRIVING ALBERTA FORWARD

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE: We foster innovation by attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent.

EMPLOYEE DIVERSITY & RETENTION

PEOPLE EXPERIENCE TEAM Our new People Experience Team supports and empowers APEGA’s two most important assets— our employees and volunteers. The team’s focus is on creating positive, productive, and fulfilling employment and volunteer experiences and building a culture in which people can thrive. The team was formed by merging our Human Resources and Volunteer Management departments. The change resulted in: •enhanced communication, collaboration, and cross-training for long-term business continuity •the allocation of more resources to improving attraction and retention of volunteers INTRODUCING FLEX WORK APEGA employees worked remotely during the pandemic, achieving and exceeding our productivity and performance expectations. When we returned to the office in the spring, we adopted a new flexible work schedule that met staff and organizational needs. Here’s how it works: •Over a one-month period, employees must work at least 50 per cent of their time in the office, with a minimum of one day each week. •Each person has the flexibility to create a schedule that works for them.

This hybrid work model allows us to continue building a strong corporate culture through in-office connections while increasing employee satisfaction, work-life balance, and talent retention. We trust employees to get the job done no matter where that happens. APEGA EMPLOYEE DAY In September, all employees from our Calgary and Edmonton offices gathered in person for the first time in nearly three years. It was a long-awaited day filled with celebration, team building, learning, and fun. In addition to organizational updates, the day included keynote speaker Dr. Johanna Pagonis, who spoke on leading with heart and purpose, and an equity, diversity, and inclusion exercise exploring cultural competence and how to recognize others’ perspectives. For many employees, this was their first time meeting co-workers face-to-face. A total of 62 new staff members have joined APEGA since the pandemic closed our offices in March 2020. OUR LONG-TERM COMMITMENT Our internal employee, diversity, and inclusion staff group meets monthly and provides feedback and recommendations on internal training, practices, and procedures to create a welcoming and safe workplace.
