Arber took over organizing the event nine years ago, changing the name to Festival of Flavours. Arber has been there since the beginning, starting off by selling apple cider. People come from far and wide to taste local flavours, and dine at the largest fully dressed lunch table, measuring 320 feet. Another 80 feet of lunch table will be added this year in another location to accommo- date the growing number of visitors. “A lot of people that attend are locals. But we get a lot fromOttawa, the lower Lauren- tians, theWest Island, Cornwall, and upper state New York,” explained Arber. “You can’t go wrong. It’s food. It’s fun. It’s atmosphere. It’s friends. It’s community.” The festival still has room for more ven- dors, and could always use volunteers. Fairs and events are important to the livelihood of the town.” The first festival was 18 years ago, and was called the International Food Festival. It was started byMary Hatz who, at the time, owned Mary’s Country Kitchen on Main Street in Vankleek Hill. There were six organizers for the festival and it re- ceived only 40 visi- tors that first year.
