“ Is It Possible To Walk Again WITHOUT PAIN?” Fulfill Your New Year Resolutions Starting With Relieving That Nagging Pain Your ability to walk is an amazingly complex system of muscles, nerves, and joints working in harmony. If you suffer from hip, knee, or leg pain, the normal movement of this complicated system has been affected in one way or another. Knee and Hip Pain Knee or hip pain can occur for many reasons, but is a mechanical problem, meaning that the joint and muscles supporting it are not functioning properly. Even though a person has arthritis in their joint, it doesn’t mean that they will have pain from it. Pain and inflammation only begin when the joint doesn’t move properly and pressures increase.

Many knee problems come from poor tracking of the kneecap or patella. The kneecap has to move up and down in the groove on the femur bone when you bend your knee. It is also where your strong thigh muscles attach. The kneecap sits on fat pads that provide cushioning. However, when the tissue around the kneecap becomes tighter, the kneecap presses further into the fat pads, making them irritated and thicker over time. This affects the normal flow of joint fluid around the inside of the knee and actually dries out the knee over time causing more friction and pain. “ Pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. ” - National Institutes of Health, 2010

Do it Yourself ICE PACKS 4 Different Methods 1. (3) parts Water to (1) part Rubbing Alcohol. This is recommended by physical therapists, it is cheap, it works perfectly, stays flexible, least mess if there is a leak, and really inexpensive.

2. Corn Syrup – Yup. Plain old corn syrup. This one is nice because it stays the most soft and flexible. But in the unlikely event it leaks, it is going to make a sticky mess. 3. Liquid Dish Soap – Ditto from above. Only this time it didn’t stay quite as flexible and the mess will be blue. 4. (2) parts Liquid Dish Soap to (1) part Rubbing Alcohol. This stays a little more flexible than plain liquid dish soap, but otherwise it is the same.

To minimize the risk of leaking after repeated uses, make sure to double bag them in sturdy freezer bags with a double lock seal just to be sure. If you have a vacuum bag sealer, this is the perfect use for it.

Giving Back To Our Community

This year, we teamed up with the Holland Rescue Mission where we provided gift bags to their emergency shelter. The emergency shelter’s purpose is to provide a warm and safe environment to all men and women who need it. We were able to give the Holland Rescue Mission many gift bags to the Emergency Shelter, which means each individual staying at the shelter on Christmas received a gift. We want to thank all who donated. We couldn’t have done this with out the help of our patients and employees!
