The Holy Spirit and Your Youth Program “ If the Holy Spirit were taken out of the world today, I believe that 95 per cent of the church work would still go on.” This statement was made by a radio pastor some weeks ago, and it made an indelible impression on my mind. The more I see of the organized church today, the more I believe that this statement is basically true. Let us consider youth work, for example, and ask ourselves this question: “ If the Holy Spirit were taken out of our youth program, how much of it would still move on unhindered?” I believe the greatest sin we are committing today is our independence from the blessed Spirit of God, who longs to fill us and flow through us to a world that is tired of the voice of the “ church scribe” and is longing to hear the voice of the prophet who is in living contact with Almighty God. God Desires To Fill You There are many misconceptions as to what the Spirit-filled life really is and how it can be experienced. Let me share some of the truths the Lord has given to me. First, dear reader, God wants to fill you. He has never chang ed His mind in this regard. It is His will that you live in the power that only HE can give. If you will take time right now to think this statement through, you will find that the Spirit of God will bear witness with your spirit that it is a true statement and that it will become a motivating force to lead you into the life that you know the -Lord has for you. Do You Want God’s Filling? Secondly, ask yourself this question: “ If God wants to fill me and use me (and you know He does), why am I not enjoying this life?” Think, and be honest with yourself. There can be only one basic reason — you do not want to be filled! I can hear someone saying, “ That’s not true! I do want to be used of God; I do want my youth group to be challenged for Christ.” It is at this very point that so many get “ side-tracked” by the enemy of our soul and are led by an illusion into the “Well of despair.” My friend, if you do not realize that the desires of your mind and the intentions of our will must be backed up with acts of obedience, you will never get out of the “ sand trap” of powerless living. Are you tired of shallow living? are you really hungry for the living bread? are you thirsty for the living water that flows from the throne of God? Jesus said, “ He that hungers and thirsts after righteous ness shall be filled..” Ask For The Lord’s Leading Thirdly, purpose in your heart right now to be filled and to ask the Lord to lead you into this truth. Begin today to examine your heart. It will take time, but meditate and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the sins which are hinder ing His work in you. Oh! how sweet it is to have Him lead day by day. As He shows you what His will is, then (and only then) surrender to His will. Obey Him and He will direct your life into the path of power . . . and as you work with your teenagers, they will “ take note that you have been with Jesus.”
