Jedan dan u Bolonji One day in Bologna

when talented physics student Adriano became famous thanks to an experiment connecting ra- dio waves between Italy and America using a device that he invented himself. Encouraged by this success, the Ducati boys founded a company on 4 th Ju- ly 1926 in the city quarter of Bor- go Panigale under the name “So- cietà Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati" (Ducati Scientific Radio Patent Company). Bruno was re- sponsible for design and Mar- cello took care of the employees, while production and research were in the hands of the geni- us Adriano. Their business was so successful that by the 1930s Ducati had become one of the leading companies in Bologna. At the outbreak of World War II the company had 5,000 employ- ees, but they were not spared from the suffering. The bomb- ings almost left the company completely destroyed… but not dejected. That 1946, a very difficult year for Italians, saw everything change again for the Ducati brothers. At the Milan Fair they presented the Cucciolo, or the Puppy (as it was called because of its exhaust pipe), a clip-on en- gine that could be attached to a bicycle frame. The Cucciolo be- came a genuine hit overnight, with Ducati constructing more than 200,000 of them by 1950! The first motorcycle based on the Ciuccolo mosdel was powered by a four-stroke engine with a vol- ume of 48cc. It weighed only 44 kilograms and had a top speed of 64km/h. An extremely important step in the history of the company occurred in 1965, when the Mach 1 was presented. Apart from being stylistically appealing, in its time it was the fastest 250cc road mo- torcycle. It weighed just 116 kilo- grams and was unstoppable! The rest is history, in which are writ- ten the Siluro, Paso, GT 750, the unsurpassed Monster and the popular Scrambler. Many workers inherited their jobs in the factory as part of a family tradition, with their fa- thers or grandfathers having worked there contributing to the creation of history. Because pas- sion is Ducati!
