LOVE ON If wounded by some critic's word, Or hurt by tongues that utter lies; If false reports on you are heard By those who watch with faithless eyes, Don't seek revenge and rise to strike And think your foes will soon be gone, Or hope that God your pluck will like, But love, O heart, love on, love on! Love on in spite of wounding darts, In spite of what the critics say; Love men through grace that God imparts What at the feet of Christ you pray. The way of love will bring you out, Though dark the night before the dawn; Then keep in faith and shun the doubt, And love, O heart, love on, love on! — Walter E. Isenhour OUR PART IN PRAYER Some go to God in prayer As though they would be heard By merit of their earnestness Or power of their word; As though God did not want to bless Or to their crying heed, But might be influenced to hear If they could prove their need. Some go to God in prayer With broken, bleeding hearts, Craving the peace and victory Which He alone imparts. They lay their burdens down On shoulders that are strong, Then take them back upon their own And carry them along. Some humbly talk to God; Confess their helplessness, And, having laid their burdens down Trust Him to do the rest. Such go away in peace And with the victor's shout, To watch with interest, and see How He will work things out.

SORE AFFLICTION

I do not ask for healing, But, Lord, I ask for grace That I in sore affliction May see Thy blessed face.

That I might look to Thee, Lord, And trust Thee more and more, And know Thou makest blessings Of my affliction. So great indeed are blessings When thine own Word I heed, And turn to Thee and trust Thee To fill my every need. The healing of our bodies Can make our bodies whole, But sore affliction worketh Great healing of the soul. So in my sore affliction I pray to ever be, A trusting and obedient child, For then Thou healest me. MAKE A COMEBACK If back across the yesteryears, Or even in the recent past, You started out with plans and tears To break a sin that held you fast; And so you fought and worked a while And seemed to gain a step or so. But Satan lured you with a smile And put you down again quite low— Still make a comeback. If in the past you had an aim Much higher than you have today, And also had a better name Than now you have along life's! way; If you have let a habit bad Rob you of grace and pull you down, Think of the pearl that once you had That might have sparkled in your crown, And make a comeback. — Walter E.
