O ne of G od ’ s most priceless gifts to the world is a baby. One time I was in St. Andrews over in England and read this on a tombstone: “Old infidelity turned pale and died. Beneath this stone four infants’ ashes lie. Say are they lost or saved? If death’s by sin, they sinned for they are here. If heaven’s by works, in heaven they can’t appear. Reason, oh how depraved. Turn to the Bible?s sacred page. The knofs untied: they died for Adam’s sin. They live, for Jesus died.” People sometimes ask, “Do babies grow up in heaven?” The Bible never tells us, and no one has been there to give us a first hand report. All we know about eternity is what we can read in our Bibles. There are some suggestions about this question. When Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).. Scripture also seems to indicate that there are-special agents, appointed by God, who take care of dead babies. The little one cannot do anything himself and has to have some body take care of him. You see, God is a loving Lord. The Saviour said, “Their angels (the

babies’ angels), do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” Wouldn’t it be nice to take care of babies if one didn’t have to fix bottles or to change diapers? A young man who worked for me one time lost two little girls because of diptheria. It happened just about two weeks apart. The second one, a little girl of about four, was there in the casket just like a big doll. The-fa ther’s tears were falling on the satin. I said to him, “Fred, what’s going on in your heart?” He looked up at me through the wetness on his face and said, “Dr. Wilson, I was just loving the Lord because he was so kind to me. You know, He has honored me more than He has honored you. You had to raise your children, but mine were so precious to God, so dear to His heart, that He wanted angels to raise them. So He took my two little girls to heav en. There He knows they won’t be troubled by the-sins, sorrows and suffer ings of earth. I just love Him for that.” There was really Christian victory even amid life’s darkest hour, and Satan’s greatest triumph. But the last enemy was defeated by Christ. From the cradle to glory our Lord cares for the children. If you are saved by grace you will go where the baby has gone. David said about his baby that died, “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” My “Wilson Opinion” is that there w ill be babies in heaven. We bury a baby. Surely it must be a baby’s spirit that comes back 25
