De nombreux candidats à Casselman À Casselman, on aura attendu quelques années avant de voir autant de candidats répondre pré- sents, que ce soit au poste de maire qu’à ceux de conseillers. Les adver- saires politiques du maire en poste, Claude Levac, sont au nombre de trois à Casselman. L’ancien maire adjoint Daniel La$eur, l’ancien maire Conrad Lamandeleine, et la conseillère Francyn LeBlanc, ten- teront de lui ravir le poste de ma- gistrat. Les conseillers ne laissent pas non plus leur place dans cette course politique puisqu’ils sont sept à vouloir occuper l’un des quatre postes de conseillers.. Les conseillers sortants, Michel Desjar- dins et Marcel Cléroux, tenteront de se faire réélire. Le conseiller sor- tant, Mario Laplante, a décidé de ne pas solliciter un nouveau mandat. Les autres candidats sont Tanya Bériault, Anik Charron, Raymond Levac, Karine Millette et Denis Re- naud. Nine candidates will be trying to win one of four councillor posi- tions in the October 27 municipal elections in the Township of Rus- sell. In addition to incumbents Pierre Leroux and Jamie Laurin, other candidates in the race are Cindy Saucier and Ron Barr from Russell, André Brisson, Amanda Simard, Raymond St-Pierre and Patrick Thibodeau from Embrun. Éric Bazinet, will not be seeking a second term while Calvin Pol, who had replaced Craig Cullen ear- lier this year, will not be running. Incumbent mayor Jean-Paul St. Pierre will also be facing compe- tition as former councillor Donald St-Pierre, a distant cousin, is also running for the top position. EMBRUN | Deux accidents de voiture se sont produits le jeudi 18 septembre derni- er sur la route 500. Le premier accident s’est produit le matin. Une camionnette circulant sur la route 500 ouest, entre Casselman et Embrun, à la hau- teur de la montée Lebrun, est entrée en col- lision avec un autobus scolaire. L’autobus, qui s’était arrêté pour faire monter un élève, a été violemment heurté à l’arrière par la ca- mionnette qui a freiné brusquement mais qui n’a pu éviter l’autobus. La camionnette a subi d’importants dom- mages contrairement à l’autobus scolaire. Les étudiants à bord n’ont subi aucun trau- matisme mais une ambulance a été appelée sur les lieux de l’accident. Un seul étudiant, qui se plaignait de maux de dos et de cou, a été transporté au Centre hospitalier pour enfants d’Ottawa (CHEO) pour véri!cation. Aucune charge n’a été portée contre le conducteur de la camion- nette. RUSSELL | Around the Village of Russell, soccer jerseys hang from neighbourhood trees and lamp posts. They are memorial tributes in honour of Russell Raiders Mark Holland and Stephan Carignan, who both passed away in mid-September. Carignan, 52, played on the club’s Old- Timers Division 3 squad. He died Sunday, Sept. 14, after a long battle against prostate cancer. A die-hard kicker to the end, Cari- gnan kept on playing his beloved game, taking to the !eld for several matches even while he was undergoing his cancer treat- ments. Holland, 37, of Casselman, died three days later on Wednesday morning, Sept. 17, as a
