Dans le canton de Glengarry Nord, les fonds aideront dans le financement des rénovations du Complexe sportif de Max- ville. Les octrois sont accordés dans le cadre du Plan d’action économique du Canada. « En finançant des projets comme ceux- ci, nous contribuons à stimuler l’activité économique et à maintenir une bonne qualité de vie pour tous nos résidents », a dit M. Lemieux. « C’est avec fierté que je vois nos collec- tivités profiter de cet important fonds », s’est exclamé M. Lemieux en présence des dignitaires de chaque municipalité. CALUMET | Grenville-sur-la-Rouge coun- cil members have been criticized for seeking an apology from two taxpayers who had implied that municipal employ- ees and four council members accepted the misappropriation of public funds. In a November 12 letter, Robin Andrews and Norman Bates had apologized for al- leging that four councillors and employees condoned the misuse of municipal money. But at the last council meeting, the members were chastised for spending money on legal fees in order to demand the retraction. Resident Joe Kelly stated “it was totally unnecessary” and“quite stupid” for council to incur about $1,800 in costs
Le député fédéral de Glengarry-Prescott- Russell, Pierre Lemieux, était de passage à Casselman récemment afin de remettre une partie d’un chèque totalisant 475 000 $ à différentes municipalités de l’Est on- tarien. Cette distribution d’argent, faite au nom de Gary Goodyear, ministre d’État pour l’Agence fédérale de développement économique pour le sud de l’Ontario, Fed- Dev, a pour but d’améliorer plusieurs in- stallations importantes dans différentes circonscriptions dans le cadre du Fonds d’amélioration de l’infrastructure commu- nautaire. Selon le député, cet investissement fé- déral permettrait d’améliorer la vie des ré- sidents et les services locaux, mais devrait également appuyer la création d’emplois, la croissance et la prospérité à long terme de chacune des régions choisies. Il s’agit de Russell, Casselman, La Nation, Hawkesbury Est, Clarence-Rockland, Glen- garry Nord et Alfred Plantagenet. Parmi les projets annoncés par le député Lemieux, on retrouve, dans la municipalité d’Alfred-Plantagenet, des rénovations au Centre communautaire Lucien-Delorme à Wendover. Alfred-Plantagenet procédera également avec la remise en état de la piscine munici- pale extérieure de Plantagenet. Dans le canton de Hawkesbury-Est, la municipalité remplacera un pont sur le chemin Greenlane.

He demanded: “How do you sleep at night throwing away our money like that?” Acting Mayor Diane Monette retorted: “I sleep well at night.” She, Councillors Noël Baril, Alain Carrière and Pierre Lessard, as well as staff mem- bers were targeted by Andrews and Bates in banners they posted on the walls of Centre Paul-Bougie at the council meet- ing of August 14, 2012. “I have a reputation to defend,” she told Kelly. “I was accused of doing something I haven’t done. I am not happy that we spent money on this, but I was not happy when the public ac- cused me of something I haven’t done. It’s a matter of respect.”Prior to the start of the August 14 meeting, several banners had been placed on the walls of the commun- ity centre. One of the banners asked if the
four councillors “consider $128 of fraud to be not significant or important? If yes, how much fraudulent money do they consider as significant/important?” Another asked: “Is it true that staff and/or councillors who illegally use public money will be held ac- countable for returning that money?” In their letter of apology, Andrews and Bates wrote: “It was certainly not our intent to discredit the reputation of any member of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Council, staff or em- ployees, but simply to hold you account- able for your actions. In the future, we shall endeavour to focus strictly on the facts.” Other taxpayers will soon be getting law- yers’ letters. Council has voted to take legal proceedings against individuals who have posted derogatory comments about the members on Facebook.
