Year-Round Local Market Many residents in the areas surrounding Komoka look forward to the weeks between May long weekend and Thanksgiving because they have the Komoka Community Market (KCM) to visit for fresh, local produce and goods. What could be better than that? The answer: buying fresh and local throughout the winter, too! Local families, vendors and customers all benefit from the KCM in the spring, summer, and fall, and often ask if KCM could run a winter market or extend its season. This winter, KCM organizers found a way. The KCM Food Hub+ is an online portal where customers can order from their favourite participating vendors and pick up their orders at a central spot. This month’s recipe uses products from ReBread and Small World Mycology, two local vendors on the KCM Food Hub+. “I’m loving the hub!” says Kath Gummow Barnes. “I’ve tried products I would never have found otherwise, like the gluten-free perogies and scones and the absolute best everything bagels. Fruits, veggies, pork and beef are excellent. Don’t forget the yogurt and ice cream. Paying by cash or e-transfer helps the vendors out, too. Thanks to Amy for starting this hub!” Vendors post their inventory by Monday night each week. Customers can browse any time, but the online store is only open for purchasing from Mondays to Thursdays. Customers pick up their boxes on Saturdays between 9 and 12 (noon) at the Komoka United Church, 110 St. Lawrence Avenue, Komoka. For more information and to shop, visit kcmfoodhub.com.

Oxford Street Improvements Coming in 2027

RECRUITING KIDS FOR A STUDY ON READING AND LANGUAGE! Scientists at Western University are conducting a research study on language and reading in developing brains. The City’s 2030 Transportation Master Plan (2013) and Cycling Master Plan identified Oxford Street West as a future four-lane corridor and cycling route. As part of these strategic plans, the City completed an Environmental Assessment in 2024 identified the elements included in the project’s scope as the best option to meet future transportation needs. The project requires two full construction seasons to complete the work between Westdel Bourne and Commissioners Road West. While construction was originally planned to begin in spring 2026, the start of major construction has been moved The City of London is moving forward with improvements to Ox- ford Street West from Westdel Bourne to Commissioners Street West. Preconstruction work begins this spring. The project will widen Oxford Street West from two lanes to four lanes between Westdel Bourne and Commissioners Road West to improve traffic flow. The work also includes upgrades at intersections, new stormwater infrastructure, sidewalks, and in-boulevard bike lanes. “This project is needed to improve traffic flow and safety along Oxford Street West,” explains Paul Yanchuk, Program Manager, City of London. “The road is already busy and is expected to see more traffic in the future.” Once the work is complete, the corridor will have enough capac- ity to meet current and future needs, and it will provide safer and more accessible options for walking and cycling.

to spring 2027 due to design challenges, utility relocations, and the time needed to secure property easements. Pre-construction activities, such as utility relocations and possi- ble tree removals, will take place in 2026. Starting full construc- tion in 2027 helps reduce the risk of the project extending into a third construction season. When construction does start, one lane of traffic in each direc - tion will remain open. There may be turning restrictions, tempo- rary intersection closures, and short-term closures during pav- ing. Detour routes and alternate access will be clearly signed to help manage traffic and reduce impacts. The City will host a public meeting in March 2026, where more information on the project design, timelines, and next steps will be available. Details on the time and location will be shared once they are confirmed.

1962 auction. At that time, British dealer John Howard acquired the car and it was finally exported back to the US in 1994. A couple of collectors in Texas owned it before Steve purchased it in 2006. It’s the third-last of the first generation of V-16s and one of only 49 made in that final production year. Half of those cars were seven passenger limos and paperwork shows this one, chassis 5130347, was a “Special Body Order.” Although much of the car’s paperwork survives, specifics of the order have been lost to time. It still has the original and rare “watch winder” hubcaps. It possesses a grand presence typified by Cadillac’s Art Deco, pre-war styling for luxury travel by elite clientele. Producers of a controversial mini-series about the Kennedy family borrowed the car in 2010 to lend authenticity to scenes filmed in Toronto involving the family patriarch, Joseph. “We used this car for the filming of “The Kennedys” at Casa Loma with Gregg Kinnear and Katie Holmes,” says Steve. “Very cool.” Despite being nearly 90 years old, the car is mostly in original condition. It was refinished in the factory black colour but there’s some minor cracking in the upholstery leather and blistering at stress points of the body. The chrome trim is in great shape for its age. As we’ve come to learn, Steve keeps his cars in driving condition. They all get out for exercise on a regular basis. For fifteen years, Steve Plunkett turned his love of cars into the Fleetwood Country Cruize-In, an event that supported local Charities and raised over $1.7 million. “Taking a passion that I love and creating an event that benefits so many people has been a blessing,” says Steve. The event attracted thousands of people and cars from across North America. When not at home on his estate on the outskirts of Riverbend, Steve tours invitational car events and shows across North America, showcasing his classic cars.

From January 1938 until October 1940, Joseph was United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, the formal title for the ambassador to the British monarch. Records show the vehicle was shipped to England in December 1937, the same month Kennedy’s posting to that country was announced. The rear license holder and custom taillights for Europe are still with the car, showing it was known as FXU 1. Being the end of the year, Mr. Kennedy could have chosen to purchase a brand new 1938 model car. But the notoriously frugal Kennedy had bypassed a newer vehicle for what was considered the previous year’s model. Despite his immense wealth, Mr. Kennedy was known to enjoy a good bargain. The vehicle spent decades in Europe. Scottish collector John Cuthill Sword purchased it and it remained with him until his

Developing courage and belonging at Matthews Hall School by Christopher White, Head of School When we reflect on our elementary school memories, we tend to remember the people, the togetherness and the opportunities to participate. Matthews Hall has been a part of the London community since 1918 and we provide and deep and varied co-curricular program that far surpasses the typical allowing our students to explore new interests, find belonging, develop a sense of self and work cooperatively with others. On an annual basis, we typically offer over 35 co-curricular activities throughout the year from grades one through eight and almost all of our students participate in these offerings. These activities cover music, drama and the arts, athletics, academics, language, student parliament, and clubs of general and developing interest. These are not extras but rather important and embedded aspects of personal development that allow for the growth moments that complement and support the daily learning. Having the opportunity to try new things in a supportive environment ensures that learning is a joyous process. It also ensures that having the courage to step beyond one’s current boundaries is developed. Growth and change come as a result of new experiences and our program is designed to provide these experiences in a way that encourages participation and therefore the inevitable and associated growth moments.

Connection and Community on Tap at BackRoads

When you walk into Riverbend’s Back - Roads Brews + Shoes, you feel the comfortable, welcoming vibe immedi- ately; it’s like you belong—whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth. That was Aaron Hendrikx’s goal when he envisioned creating a specialty running store combined with a neighbourhood taproom in 2018. Today, BackRoads is Riverbend’s quintessential community hub and meeting place. “I wanted to create a place that com- bined running, connection, and a sense (226) 998-8703 Enhance Physical Health, Confidence and Self Esteem with Sifu Carlos Ferraz

showed up, and people were coming for more than shoes or a drink; they were coming to be part of something.” Part of what makes BackRoads special is the variety of commu- nity events they host, from taproom activities like bingo nights, live music, and trivia, to community runs and supporting local races. “With BackRoads bringing several elements together, like retail, taproom, cafe, run clubs, and community, it makes a lot of big and fun ideas possible.” Some of those ideas include free Thursday night social runs that are open and welcoming to everyone, paid training programs designed to help runners prepare for race season, and a new subscription service for runners who work with private coaches. BackRoads also raises money and awareness for several local charities, including the Ronald McDonald House, where they have raised over $70,000 in the last three years. “I love that small, local spaces can have a big impact. Every time someone tells us BackRoads helped them feel more con- nected, healthier, or more confident, it reinforces why I started it in the first place.” With a walking group, a book club, and a wide range of running and non-running events, BackRoads is a community hub where you can grab a new pair of shoes, enjoy a great drink, and feel like you belong. “BackRoads is truly a space for everyone—all paces, all faces. Whether you’re a runner, walker, reader, or just looking for a great place to hang out, there is a spot for you here,” adds Aaron. Located at 1295 Riverbend Road, BackRoads Brews + Shoes is open Sunday to Saturday. For more information, including hours, visit their website at www.backroadsrun.com.

of belonging,” explains Aaron. “Running shops can feel intimi - dating. BackRoads removes barriers to create a space where people feel comfortable, no matter where they are in their fit - ness journey.” On the retail side, BackRoads offers high-quality, thoughtfully curated running gear, including footwear, apparel, socks, and running accessories. The taproom at BackRoads features a rotating selection of On- tario craft beers, as well as gluten-free and non-alcoholic options, local ciders, canned cocktails, kombucha, coffee, wine, soda, and juice. They also sell bar snacks and encourage guests to bring their own food, reinforcing their community hangout vibe. When asked why combine running with craft beer, Aaron ex- plains that some of the best conversations happen after a run, and sharing a drink is often how people connect. “The taproom is about giving people a reason to stay, talk, build relationships, and ultimately have fun.” Running has shaped Aaron’s life. As an elite runner through high school and university, he dreamt of competing in the Olym- pics. While he still has running goals and gets out for runs when he can, more often he’s running after his busy two-year-old son or travelling with his fiancé. For Aaron, running now is about balance, mental health, and connection, values found in the BackRoads community. In the early days, Aaron says there was a definite curiosity about the unique combination of retail store and tap room. “Peo- ple soon started to understand. Run groups formed, regulars

Finding Nature’s Beauty in Layers Riverbend resident Rebecca St. Pierre has been discovering the nat- ural world through the lens of a cam- era since the mid-1980s. In the last five years, however, she has found new worlds through the art of com- posite photography. The resulting images reveal Nature in layers, un- veiling a surreal world that is keenly familiar yet mesmerizingly unfamiliar. Rebecca describes composite photography as the blending of two or more photographs to create a new image. Using multiple photo-editing programs to layer her photographs, Rebecca se- lectively reveals or hides sections of the photos to create imag- inary scenes rooted in the natural world. The cards, available in a package of four for $20, sold out three times – but the need is ongoing and Sandi will kindly print more to accommodate further orders. “Photos of sunsets introduce colour, images of water ripples add texture, and combining multiple images adds mystery,” ex - plains Rebecca. “I only use images I’ve taken over the past 20 years and preserve creative control and artistry by not using AI in my process.” How snowmen are helping unsheltered women stay warm! Hyde Park area artist Sandi McCabe printed sets of her whimsical snowman cards and offered the proceeds of sales to My Sisters’ Place – a program of CMHA Thames Valley – that offers support for women facing violence, mental and physical health challenges, homelessness or housing instability, substance use or extreme poverty, to help fund their winter Overnight Resting Spaces program.

Rebecca first discovered this art form when she noticed inspir - ing composite images online and realized the genre held exciting creative possibilities. “I noticed that I paused longer to examine these images than when I’m looking at a regular photo,” she adds. Rebecca taught herself the technique through hours of online research and experimentation, developing her style over time by focusing on composition, colour, and movement. But Nature is Rebecca’s muse, nurturing her soul and motivating her to cre - ate art. “I’m naturally drawn to including paths, boardwalks, and birds in my pieces. Lately, I’ve focused on trees to draw atten - tion to their vital role in our lives.” Rebecca also writes poetry, which often joins forces with her photography to speak for Nature. She has 10 published poems for children, half of which include her photography. “I especial- ly love writing haiku, which isn’t surprising as it’s essentially a snapshot of a moment, like any photograph.” Jazmine, Jim McCabe, Sandi McCabe, Louise, Jennifer and Vivia.

Cards may be ordered by contacting Sandi by email at sandi@mccabepro.com. Card sets can be picked up at Sandi’s home on Riverside Drive by appointment or she will deliver if required. Learn more about My Sisters’ Place at cmhatv.ca/mysistersplace and more about Sandi at sandimccabe.com.

Rebecca’s composite images have been published as maga - zine covers and juried into exhibitions at the Legislative Assem- bly of Ontario. One photograph inspired the creation of a mural at West 5 Optometry, and a photo of Kains Woods appeared in the 2025 fall issue of ON Nature Magazine . When not creating fantastical worlds with her composite images or capturing a moment in Haiku, Rebecca is walking the paths in and around Riverbend, watching wildlife visit the stormwater pond, and hiking on trails in Kains Woods. Rotary to the Rescue The Rotary Club of London Hyde Park collected 915 pairs of men’s, women’s and children’s socks and presented them to Mission Services in December. Pictured are Rotarians Neil Holt and Lillian Reid (left), and Nicolai Jacobsen, CEO of Parkway Garden Centre, along with Sheila Pickens of Magnolia Boutique (right), presenting some of the socks to Mission Services Senior Development Officer Kelly Thomson (centre). “Special thanks goes out to Parkway Garden Centre for allowing us to use their facility as a donation location, as well as to the many folks who donated socks,” said Barbara Robins of the Rotary club. Metal prints of Rebecca’s work are available at Shop Museum London and the Curiosities Gift Shop. You can also see more of Rebecca’s art or contact her by visiting her website at word - flightandlight.mypixieset.com or on Instagram @rebeccamstp.

Per capita, Southwestern Ontario is home to the most golf courses in North America. In London and its surrounding counties, local golfers have access to 13 private golf clubs, 112 semi-private and public clubs, 20 stand-alone outdoor golf practice centers, numerous golf ranges housed at local clubs and public venues, as well as a growing number of indoor golf simulators and practice centers. The golf industry contributes tens of millions of dollars annually to the local economy, including spending at golf clubs, retail sales and charity golf fundraising.

Riverbend Golf Community Wins 2026 Best Of London Golf Award by Jeffrey Reed This past January, LondonOntarioGolf.com—the Voice of Golf in Southwestern Ontario—chose RiverBend Golf Community as the winner of the 2026 Best of London Golf Award, selected by the LondonOntarioGolf.com editorial team. For 13 years, the highly successful Best of London Golf Awards took the form of a readers’ choice poll honouring numerous golf industry sectors. This year, and moving forward, the Best of London Golf Award focuses on one Southwestern Ontario golf club for its outstanding customer service and golf amenities. When Sifton Properties’ RiverBend Golf Community opened its 18- hole, Doug Carrick-designed golf course in 2002, it did with much deserved fanfare. Today, with its combination of community luxury homes and a championship golf course, beautiful Kains Woods, and many first-rate course and clubhouse amenities, the River - Bend gated golf community remains unique to this part of Canada. “The RiverBend Golf Community is the perfect choice as winner of the 2026 Best of London Golf Award,” says LondonOntario - Golf.com publisher and editor Jeffrey Reed. “As a golf journalist who has written and talked about the industry since 1980, I say without hesitation that RiverBend offers some of the finest golf amenities and all-around customer service anywhere in Cana- da. The RiverBend community has become an important part of our local golf fabric, and it’s one of the reasons London is the Golf Capital of Canada.” Your Perfect Match awaits you at The London Animal Care Centre and The Catty Shack! Potholes and Major Construction Updates After a long winter, March brings the promise of warmer days—and with it, a renewed focus on our road infrastructure. I want to share updates on two major construction projects coming to Ward 9, as well as what residents can expect during pothole season. What’s Happening at Landon Library Submitted by Ashleigh Hickey Cursive Writing (Ages 8+) January 20, 2024 10:30 am – noon (Registered) If you’re in the mood for an authentic Irish dish (St. Patrick’s Day is March 17) – sorry, green beer doesn’t count – try these easy but very delicious potato farls. This is my grandmother’s recipe from Co. Cavan in the east of Ireland, but potato farls (a kind of savoury scone) are common around the whole island. Even if you’re not much of a baker, they come together very quickly. Preparation time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 30 minutes Makes 8 small farls Ingredients: 500g floury potatoes 50g butter 50g plain flour, plus extra for dusting A pinch of baking powder Salt and black pepper Extra butter, for cooking Instructions: 1. Peel and boil the potatoes, then drain well, and return the potatoes to the pan. 2. Melt the butter in a pan and add to the potatoes. Mash them until smooth. This part is your workout for the day! Boler Road Cycling and Watermain Improvements The City of London is planning construction along Boler Road from Commissioners Road West to Southdale Road West. This project includes installing a new two-way cycle track on the east side of the road and replacing an aging watermain. Detailed design work is currently underway, along with required tree removals, which must be completed by March 31. Residents are invited to attend a public drop-in open house on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the London Public Library, Byron Branch (1295 Commissioners Rd. W.), where City staff will share construction details and timelines. Oxford Street West Extension The Oxford Street West Extension project will widen and upgrade Oxford Street West from east of Westdel Bourne to Sanitarium AlvegoRoot Theatre Trivia Night Manor Park Memorial Hall, 11 Briscoe Street For ticket information and to learn more about AlvegoRoot’s 2024 season, visit www.alvegoroottheatre.com It’s time to be creative! Drop by your local library to take a break and create. Craft supplies may vary, chill vibes only. STEAM, Saturdays (Family) February 3, 2024 10:00 – 11:00 am (Drop-In) Drop-in to explore a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math related activities! 3. Sift the flour with the baking powder into the potato mix and stir to combine. Taste for seasoning and adjust, if required. The dough should pull away from the sides of the pan. 4. Divide the dough into two halves. Form one piece into a ball, then roll it out on a floured surface and into a rough, flat. Cut the circle into quarters. 519-661-2489 ext 4009 ahopkins@london.ca Come learn the benefits of cursive writing and try your hand at some pangrams with Dez, a local archivist. PA Day Creativity Break (Teen) February 2, 2024 3:00 – 4:30 pm (Drop-In) Your Perfect Match awaits you at The London Animal Care Centre and The Catty Shack! Forest City Irish Fest is also hosting a series of concerts throughout the year, bringing world-class Irish musicians to London and also hosting traditional music sessions (music played informally in pubs) and singing throughout the afternoon and evening of March 17th. Enjoy a few pints of well-poured Guinness and some curry chips – it doesn’t get more Irish than this! Bringing people and pets together www.accpets.ca 5. Heat a shallow frying pan over a medium heat with a little butter to grease the surface. Transfer the four pieces to the pan and cook for around 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip over and cook the other side for another 3 minutes. Remove to a warm plate. 6. Repeat with the other half of the dough. These potato farls are perfect as part of an Irish fry-up or toasted with some butter and jam. Tugaigí faoi (enjoy)! If this little taste of Ireland isn’t enough for you – Wortley Village will host the first Forest City Irish Fest, a free celebration of all things authentically Irish, on September 19. Bring the whole family down for Irish music, dance, storytelling, language and sports, along with many vendors and a kids’ corner. Cultural Cooking by Rachel Genders Boyd Potato Farls

Message from the Mayor

Hello Riverbend neighbours, As March arrives, I want to recognize the resilience you’ve shown through one of London’s hardest winters in recent memory. The holiday ice storm, followed by weeks of deep freeze, meant City crews were out continuously for more than two weeks clearing an unmoving snowpack across over 3,600 kilometres of streets, pathways and cycling routes. In Riverbend, with its hills, long stretches near the river and busy roads around West Five, I know this work was especially challenging.

Your patience as crews focused on major corridors like Oxford Street West and Kains Road has been greatly appreciated. Winter in this part of the city always comes with its own unique hurdles, but this year demanded an extraordinary response, and I want to acknowledge the long hours and effort that went into managing a difficult winter so far. Now we can finally look forward to brighter skies, longer days and the early signs of spring returning to the trails along the river and the growing Riverbend community. Thank you for your resilience, your neighbourly spirit and your commitment to keeping this part of London strong. Josh
