THE K I NG ’ S BUS I NESS

We, too, are Jesus’ disciples. He expects us to see how many' lovely, helpful things we can do for other people in His name. Can you suggest some of the things which we might do? Object Lesson A Low L e tt e r a n d a L o n g L adder OBJECT: A capital “H.” (Cut a piece of white pâpér 8% xll inches into three strips, 2 5/6 inches wide, and glue the ends together, making a strip approximately 32 inches long. Fold 8 times until the size is approximately 2 inches high and 2 5/6 inches wide. Now cut the capital “H.” Color the front gray. Unfold and color the top “H” yellow. Refold béfóre beginning the lesson.) LESSON: See whether you can tèli me two things about this Capital “H” which are unusual. “It is low and gray.” You are correct. Its color reminds us of repentance, and its l a c k óf height, humility. We will let it sug gest the w o r d “humility,” because- much is said in thé Bible about this word. In 1 Peter 5:5, 6 We read, “Fòr God resistetti, the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble your selves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may éxalt yoü in due time.” There is a time of ex altation coming for the people of Gód Who are humble. After Jesus had eaten the last sup per with His disciples, He washed their feet and said, “If I then, yoür Lord and Master, have washed your feet;, ye also ought to wash one an other’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you” (John 13:14, 15). Paul, writing about Christ in Philip- pians 2:8, 9 said, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even thé death Of thè Cross. Whèrefòre Gód also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” We will unfold this “H” and see whether it does not tell us the same story. It becomes a long ladder with a golden “H” representing heaven at the top. Because of Christ’s humility, He was exalted. Christians who are hum ble, will some day be exalted in heav en. Humility leads to glory.

it is "where I am.” That will make it heaven. Golden Text Illustration J ohn 14:6 William Spurgeon of Wa f l e s was once lecturing in a city in Scotland. After the lecture an old gentleman of polished manner approached him and said, “Doctor Spurgeon, I am glad to meet you. I am the father of Henry Drummond.” “Oh, then,” said Dr. Spurgeon, “I already know you, for I know your son so well.” There is only one way by 'which we may know God, and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ. How well we know the Father depends Upon our acquaintance with His Son. He is “the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh Unto the Father,” but by Him who is the image of God.—Adapted, from Twenty-five Hundred Best Mod ern Illustrations, by Hallock. What Jesus Found to Do J ohn Ì3 MEMORY VERSE: “By love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13). APPROACH: Do you like to go.bare- footed in the summer time, ór perhaps just .wear, comfortable sandals with out stockings? If you do, you know how. good and refreshing cool water dals by the door. If their feet were hot and dusty, it was thè custom for a servant to bathe them in refresh ing water. * LESSON STORY: One day the Lord Jesus told Peter and John to prepare a certain upper room in Jerusalem where He would eat with His disciples that-evening. Jesus knew it would be the last supper that He would èat With them before His death, and His heart must have been very heavy. Wouldn’t you think that all of the disciples would have wanted to wash Jesus’ feet that evening? The s t r a n g e fact is that no one thought about it. Apparently every body was thinking a b o u t himself. When the s u p p e r was over, how ashamed the disciples must have been when they saw thè Lord Jesus get up from the table, take a towel, and after pouring water into a basin, begin to wash their feet and wipe them with the towel! Would you like to hear what Peter said in his own words? (Read vérSès 6 through 17 to the chil dren.) i - b i Y Ï s T o n feels to your feet after a long walk in the sunshine.
