Common Cancers in Bristol Bay Region BREAST CANCER Between 2008 and 2022, 46 Alaska Native females in the service region were diagnosed with breast cancer resulting in an incidence rate of 128.1. During the five- year period from 2018-2022, breast cancer incidence was higher among Bristol Bay’s Alaska Native females than females statewide (198.1 and 150.3, respectively). LUNG CANCER The five-year incidence of lung cancer among Bristol Bay’s Alaska Native people was similar to Alaska statewide (86.9 and 84.7, respectively). Males had a higher incidence of lung cancer compared to females. Rates by age groups were suppressed due to fewer than 5 cases per year.

Incidence among individuals age 60–80+ was about 10 times higher than those under age 59. Females had slightly higher incidence rates than males.
